  • 29 Sep 2010 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I rise on a point of order to seek clarification from the Chair, especially following the Prime Minister’s exposition on the Constitution on a matter, which, in my view, is of national interest and which is generating a lot of public interest and debate. Mr. Speaker, Sir, to the best of my mind the 10th Parliament was sworn in on the 15th January, 2008. If I understand it well, it is supposed to run for five years up to 14th January, 2013. According to the new Constitution, elections must be held on ... view
  • 28 Sep 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I wish to request for a Ministerial Statement from the Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports on what steps he is taking to bring back soccer glory to Kenya. In the Statement, I want the Minister to clarify the following, in particular:- 1. What he is doing about the demonstrated inability of the Football Kenya to manage football in this country and why the officials of Football Kenya should remain in office. 2. What he is doing about Football Kenya’s perennial inability to appoint a coach who can create a winning team from the millions of ... view
  • 1 Sep 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, thank you for giving me this chance. I want to join my colleagues in congratulating the people of Kenya for delivering the Constitution after so many years of false starts. I support this Motion as a patriot and a Kenyan who loves this country deeply. Allow me also to congratulate the achievement of David Lekuta Rudisha for breaking the world record in 800 metres twice in a space of less than two weeks. This is not a small achievement and I am surprised that Kenyans seem to be taking it for granted. What Rudisha has done ... view
  • 1 Sep 2010 in National Assembly: We know the last record was broken by a Kenyan who went to Denmark and Rudisha has brought it back and we really must congratulate him on the Floor of this august House. view
  • 1 Sep 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, the people of Kenya have passed this Constitution. But in my view, we will be deluding ourselves to think that hatchets of yester-year; the very ones that have pushed back the promise of Kenya are going to offer themselves for quick and easy burial. I say this because the essence of this Constitution is to make us have a clean break with our dark past. Those of us who went for the promulgation ceremony at Uhuru Park, what did we see? We saw the very same people who have been responsible for Goldenberg and Anglo Leasing ... view
  • 1 Sep 2010 in National Assembly: known that the spirit and letter of this new Constitution will have been achieved when it becomes possible for someone from North Eastern Province to become the President of Kenya without somebody questioning their religion, ethnicity and the number and size of his tribe. Then, we shall have known that the spirit and letter of this Constitution will have been achieved when it shall be possible for someone from western Kenya, privileged to lead this country, shall select his top security team without being too mindful about his own tribe. view
  • 1 Sep 2010 in National Assembly: With those few remarks, I beg to support. view
  • 25 Aug 2010 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, for giving me the opportunity to support this Motion. Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, allow me to start supporting this Motion by narrating a story we were told when we were young, of some mythical town in a rural area somewhere. We were told that one day a stranger appeared in that town and asked the people of the town to go into their town hall, whereupon he showed them a video of how their town would look like if they chose development. They were shown very wide highways, high-speed fibre connections, electricity ... view
  • 25 Aug 2010 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. I wish to second this Motion and congratulate my colleague and the Vice-Chairman of our Committee, hon. James Maina Kamau, for moving the Motion. The issues raised, particularly the matter of ownership of KPLC are important. Considering the interrelationship between KPLC and the key players in the sector, I think it is important that this matter be sorted out so that we avoid situations where KPLC and especially, private companies using public investments to generate profits for their shareholders. Having said this, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I think the issues in this ... view
  • 24 Aug 2010 in National Assembly: Thank you very much, Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me this chance to support this Motion. Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker, allow me to start by acknowledging the role of sports in Kenya in achieving peace, security and national cohesion. This has been aptly demonstrated by the activities of such organizations like the Tecla Lorupe Foundation, whose annual peace runs have helped to heal deep divisions between communities. I think, perhaps, it is time the Ministry of State for Provincial Administration and Internal Security considered working with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to use sports to heal divisions ... view
