  • 19 Jan 2023 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Chairman, Sir. I rise to support the amendment by Sen. Mumma. I do so because the inclusion of the Public Service Commission is actually inclusion of the President who is a player in the elections in the nomination of the Select Committee. As you know, the Public Service Commission is the instrument which the President uses to nominate or appoint people to public service. view
  • 19 Jan 2023 in Senate: No, I do not need information because I have enough. view
  • 19 Jan 2023 in Senate: The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. A certified version of this Report can be obtained from the Hansard Editor, Senate. view
  • 19 Jan 2023 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Chairperson, Sir, I am speaking from a point of knowledge that the President actually uses the Public Service Commission as the instrument for appointing people to the public service. Therefore, when you include that one and he is also a politician and you also give him a hand in the nomination in Political Parties Liaison Committee and you also give him only one chance in the Parliamentary Service Commission because if they are not two, then there is going to be only one which is also likely to go to the Majority; then you are giving the President ... view
  • 19 Jan 2023 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for the opportunity. The Bill that is before us is a very important one. It is an important one because we are a young democracy and are maturing or rather want to mature into a mature democracy. We do not want our standards of democracy to be compared with our neighbours and the other countries in Africa. We want our democracy to be the best and be compared with the best in the world. Therefore, when we talk about the IEBC, it is a very crucial tool in the election process and we must not ... view
  • 26 Oct 2022 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, for the opportunity to congratulate Sen. Murkomen on his appointment as the Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Roads and Transport. view
  • 26 Oct 2022 in Senate: Sen. Murkomen has been an outstanding Senator. I was not a Member of this Senate before, but being a Member of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), I used to hear a lot about his contributions in this House. I do not want to say a lot. I just want to urge him to do what he has promised. He has said that he will not be partisan in dispensing services to the people of Kenya. We hope that you will offer services to the people and forget about elections. Elections are over. Now, it is time to work and ... view
  • 26 Oct 2022 in Senate: Sen. Murkomen, please talk to people who are still creating a campaign mood by trying to lure some people from our side and asking them to join them. Let them know that they are trying to weaken the Opposition. They promised that they will not have a “handshake” because they want a strong opposition to oversight the Government. view
  • 26 Oct 2022 in Senate: When you talk to leaders and ask why they are not joining you, that is not the way to go. There must be people in the opposition and others on your side. Let us all work together in the interest of the people of Kenya. view
  • 25 Oct 2022 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, for giving me the opportunity. I do not want to be lengthy. Remunerating or giving a lumpsum to former councilors is very important. I was a councilor from the year 1974 to 1975. Those days they were not paid any salary or anything like that. They were only given allowances. My allowance was Kshs250 per month. I would not like to speak much of those days because most of my colleagues - I think all of them - the people I served with, are all dead. This just goes out to show that there ... view
