  • 18 Feb 2009 in National Assembly: In the interest of his nation, President Obama has had a job freeze and salary reduction. We should be magnanimous Kenyans to have our salaries cut voluntarily and not baying for people's blood simply because we do not like them so that they can pave way for your agenda. This time round, this Parliament must stand for what it is made of. I have no fear of contradiction. We will be able to address the issues as they appear. At the end of the day, time is a healer. view
  • 18 Feb 2009 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, thank goodness, we got a public broadcast of our proceedings in Parliament. Some of us have been here for seven years and we have grown gradually. Some of us are running too fast to self-inflicting positions. Within no time, Kenyans will decide who to listen to and who not to bother listening to. Give us issues and positions. Let us not confuse the country. You saw it here; people anticipating debate. • 4 Feb 2009 in National Assembly: (a) The total value of business premises and merchandise destroyed in Kisumu during the post-election violence was approximately valued at Kshs1.09 billion. This is an estimate based on the initial assessment. It is important to note that the figure of Kshs1.09 billion is an approximation due to the following reasons:- view
  • 4 Feb 2009 in National Assembly: First, not all the businesses damaged either partially or totally could produce proper duplicated business records. Over estimation of value destroyed was noted due to the expectations of compensation. Many business owners could not be accessed since they had fled the area to escape the post-election violence. Their input, into the exercise, therefore, could not be obtained. Values were, therefore, estimated and the exact values not captured at all. view
  • 4 Feb 2009 in National Assembly: (b) I am consulting with the Government on the possibilities of accessing the business premises that were affected in all areas. view
  • 4 Feb 2009 in National Assembly: This Question was asked last year. I am glad to inform the House that I worked on a Report which has, so far, estimated the loss at Kshs2.152 countrywide. The areas affected most were in Nyanza Province followed by those of Nairobi Province. I would like to table the Report. view

  • 4 Feb 2009 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, the contract of insurance is an obligation between two principals. It is true that it also depends on how well organized the insurance company is in terms of maintaining its clientele. However, the losses that were experienced during the post-election violence were of exponential nature. view
  • 4 Feb 2009 in National Assembly: I seek the indulgence of the House, to share the valuable information given by the hon. Member of Parliament. If need be, we, as a Government, will address the issue, and help the people who were affected. The conditions we operated under, in the beginning of the last year, were exceptional and, therefore, they required exceptional treatment. view
