  • 30 Jun 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I wish to support this Petition because the riots in the University of Nairobi normally affect even those who are far away from the university. I take this opportunity to comment on what is known to almost everybody in this Chamber. There are halls of residence which are next to the School of Built Environment that normally harbours residents who have taken the halls to be permanent residence. Since they cleared their university studies five or seven years ago, they still reside in those halls. We do not know what they do around Nairobi. Even in ... view
  • 30 Jun 2016 in National Assembly: time possible get their programme delayed because of minor things that would have been sorted out. I strongly support this Petition and hope that we can find a permanent solution to the problem so that we can restore sanity especially in and around the city. This is one university that is located at the heart of the city which is supposed to be a good example to the rest of the world. With those few remarks, I support. view
  • 22 Jun 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. Allow me to cite the analogy which is normally used to describe the situation in the country – the famous kazi kwa vijana, pesa kwa wazee . You allocate 30 per cent of the available opportunities of procurement to the youth, who are 70 per cent of the country’s population. It is a paradox of the whole situation because that is where we have the most energetic, productive people and the highest percentage of the population which is very needy. According to what we passed in the Constitution, we are denying the youth this opportunity. Before ... view

  • 22 Jun 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I know you are looking at that time. I will make sure that I do not exceed it. I thank the Member for Kamukunji, Hon. Hassan, for the opportunity to second this Motion. Without the need to preach to the already converted, the African word “Kamukunji” is a place where informal meetings take place. It is a place where people meet to compare notes and exchange ideas. view
  • 22 Jun 2016 in National Assembly: I believe that is how that ground came into existence. There is need to realise that all historic events that have changed the political landscape of Kenya have taken place at the Kamukunji grounds. There is need to make sure that we protect those grounds beyond generations because if you look at all the milestones that we have achieved in the political landscape of Kenya, you will find that they had one or more things to do with the Kamukunji grounds. These include the famous Saba Saba political rally and the recent initiative by the Opposition to try and start ... view

  • 21 Jun 2016 in National Assembly: Hon. Deputy Speaker, I want to indulge your attention. We are freezing in this Chamber. It is July and if you look at the way Members are, you will find that they are very immobile because they are freezing. We kindly ask you to instruct that the air conditioner is either turned on or the temperatures are increased. view

  • 21 Jun 2016 in National Assembly: However, I want to say something about the Petition even though you want to bring it to an end. Having power in the wrong hands is as dangerous as having a grenade in the hands of children. At the moment, we have governors who have militia forces that are pretending to be law enforcers in this country. They have been harassing our people and now they have gone ahead and formed courts that are used by these law enforcers to harass these people further. The law is very clear that courts can only be created by an Act of this ... view
