  • 16 Nov 2022 in Senate: Well guided Mr. Speaker Sir. Let me comment on one of the Statements by Sen. (Dr.) Murango on the issue of the distribution of food to people affected by the famine. I noted that he raised the issue of the system used in distributing this food. It looks like the system of identifying the beneficiaries is not efficient. That raises concerns because there was a recommendation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and other donors that the Government changes from physical food distribution to cash transfers which was more efficient. I ask the relevant Committee to move with speed and request sufficient information from the relevant Ministry so that we do not expose ourselves to corruption that is likely to arise as a result of this crisis disaster that we have.   • 16 Nov 2022 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I rise pursuant to Order No.53(1) to seek a Statement from the Standing Committee on Trade, Industrialization and Tourism, regarding the effects of Government austerity measures on the hotel industry. In the Statement, the Committee should- (1) State the measures, if any, the Government is taking to help the hotel industry to recover from the effects of COVID-19 pandemic due to low volumes of international booking. Reading through the Report, the Committee has recommended that the rules need to be amended, so that we have clarity on the role of the Joint Committee. The rules talk about presiding officers. I hope that the relevant Committee will take it up and make sure that the rules are amended appropriately. Also, the provision on the withdrawal of candidates is not clearly stipulated.   • 10 Nov 2022 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I rise pursuant to Standing Order No.53(1) to seek a Statement from the Standing Committee on National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations on the rising cases of insecurity in Vihiga County. In the Statement the committee should– (1) Explain the reasons for the recent rise in cases of insecurity and a wave of violent attacks on business people and other residents in parts of Vihiga County, particularly, Cheptulu market where a business man was recently short dead by a heavily armed gang; as well as the surrounding areas of Kaimosi, Chaviriga and Makuchi. view
