  • 9 Feb 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you very much, Hon. Speaker. I also would like to join colleagues to pay tribute to the great leader, Simeon Nyachae, who is one of the nationalists that have lived in our time. Simeon Nyachae brought great impact in Civil Service and actually showed this country how honest leadership within the Civil Service could actually bring out a civil service that could deliver services. I remember his history because he was one of the most effective District Commissioners (DCs) and Provincial Commissioners (PCs) in terms of service delivery to the people. This country, right now, lacks such leadership in ... view
  • 3 Dec 2020 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker, for giving me this opportunity. The two petitions that have been presented are on land matters and one that has been presented by my neighbour Hon. Chonga shows the situation at the Coast in terms of land, especially in Kilifi. The Petition presented by Hon. (Ms.) Sabina also touches on land in Kilifi. It is the same story. Both petitions tell the same story. The land they are claiming in Kilifi was acquired the same way as the one that Hon. Chonga has presented. The land that Kagaa Farmers are claiming is in my constituency. It ... view

  • 26 Nov 2020 in National Assembly: enough land issues. Galana-Kulalu will become another big land issue and yet, again, at the Coast. There have been attempts to reduce issues of land at the Coast, but you can see that the people at the Ministry of Lands and Government officers are now creating another problem. Galana-Kulalu was supposed to be a national food basket, but it has moved from the original objective to now people wanting to sub-divide the land. There are people who have been earmarked to be given that land. We have been requesting for a meeting to participate and consult on this, but the ... view
  • 19 Nov 2020 in National Assembly: Thank you very much Hon. Speaker. I, the UNDERSIGNED, on behalf of the Pemba people of Kenya, would like to present a Petition regarding the recognition of the Pemba people as citizens of the Republic of Kenya. I wish to draw the attention of the House to the following: THAT, the Pemba community whose population in Kenya exceeds 5,000 people is part of the 16 Swahili dialects of the traditional Swahili of Kenya whose root word Suhailya means “people residing on the shores of the ocean”; THAT, the Pemba People of Kenya are originally from the eponymous island in the ... view
  • 19 Nov 2020 in National Assembly: THAT, failure by the Government of Kenya to recognize the Pemba people of Kenya as citizens continues to cause great anguish and inconvenience to them since they are unable to register their children at birth, they miss out on education, health and other social services, are excluded from employment, are unable to register businesses or to open bank accounts or even to register phone sim cards, have unrecognized marriages, are compelled to register assets such as land through proxies, and are regularly exposed to arbitrary arrests for falling to carry identity cards and for allegedly being in Kenya illegally; view
