The 138th Assembly of the IPU and related meetings held on 22nd to 28th March 2018 was quite an eye opener. First, it took a lot of time to discuss issues of refugees and migrants which was the theme of this very important meeting that was held in Geneva. As a country, we are discovering new energy sources in terms of oil in Turkana and other places. The world is moving towards renewable energy. Looking at the Report, you realise that for this country to be sustainable and part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is that we have to invest heavily in renewable energy so that we can sustain the economy as it were. As Kenyans, we are honoured that we got one of our own to become Vice-President of the Forum of Women Parliamentarians in the IPU. Through a lot of lobbying, Sen. Kihika was elected the Vice- President of the Forum of Women Parliamentarians. When it came to the most important Motion on the Floor of the House, Kenyans were at a loss because, firstly, we did not have a policy that was developed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade to guide us in the debate. Secondly, we were told very late that we were a non-aligned nation and, therefore, we could not take a position.
