  • 4 Aug 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you very much, Hon. Speaker. This is a Request for a Statement for the payment of internal examination fees in primary schools. Pursuant to the provisions of Standing Order No.44(2)(c), I seek to request for a Statement from the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Education and Research regarding payment of internal examination fees in primary schools. As part of curriculum implementation, learners in primary schools are expected to undertake internal examination at the middle or end of each term. To that end, and in a bid to guarantee high standards and reliability of those exams, primary schools countrywide ... view

In some cases, those exams are written on blackboards, which is a strenuous and tedious exercise. The national Government currently funds Free Primary Education (FPE) at a rate of Kshs1,420 per pupil that primarily caters for tuition, leaving examinations and assessment without any specific earmarked funding. • 8 Jul 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I see that the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Education and Research has left, but three weeks ago, I sought a Statement on the mass failure of students in Kilifi County. In my Statement, I put it in such a way that I requested an inquiry on the same. However, I had a meeting with the Departmental Committee on Education and Research and they said that they were unable to carry out the work. So, I said that I will come back to the Chamber and request that you invoke the provisions of Standing Order ... view

  • 8 Jul 2021 in National Assembly: I agree, Hon. Speaker. However, they called me to the meeting last week and I attended the session where they told me how handicapped they are. They had sent the document to the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Education, and he returned it and said that the Statement requested for an inquiry. Therefore, the Chairperson and her Committee informed me that they will request you to allow them to go with Standing Order No. 218(2). So, now that we are going on recess… view
