16 Jun 2020 in Senate:
Mr. Speaker, Sir, if my good friend, Sen. M. Kajwang’, listened to me, I did not say ‘when this happens.’ I said that if the Plenary vindicates the Governor, she will be free to walk around everywhere and say, “yes, I was listened to by the Plenary.” If you look at the people in this Senate, these are very sober minds. If you put all of them together, they can listen and make a decision. I am not saying that a Committee will not do that. However, my worry is that already the people who will be affected by the ...

16 Jun 2020 in Senate:
I support the President of this Republic. He says that he fights corruption and wants to uphold the rule of law, and this is where we are. For me, this afternoon, we want justice to be seen to be done. That is why I am inviting hon. Members that let us go the Plenary route because that is what the people are asking for. Mr. Speaker, Sir, it is not because there is anything wrong with the Committee. The fact is that the people of Kirinyaga County want Plenary and all of us have heard that. How can people ask ...

19 May 2020 in Senate:
Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I want to join my colleagues who have voiced concerns on the current issue of education. I thank Sen. Kwamboka for bringing this Statement. This is a very clear example of how resources are misused in this Republic. We have KICD who develop content. We have developed beautiful content because I had an occasion to watch some of what they are transmitting. However, who is the recipient of this content? How are the children supposed to receive this content? I did a sample test in my county and I can tell you that in Embu ...

Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. A while ago, the Chair directed that my Committee brings a Statement on maize and also on the progress that the Ministry has done with the recommendations of the Senate Ad hoc Committee on Maize. 19 May 2020 in Senate:
The Committee held an online meeting with the Cabinet Secretary (CS) on Monday, 4th May, 2020 where he briefed the Senators as follows - On food security in the country and maize importation, the national food and nutrition security is stable following near normal performance of the 2019 long rain season and good performance of the 2019 short rain season. While prices of maize and wheat have increased following uncertainties brought about by the Coronavirus (COVID- 19) pandemic, as well as the locust invasion in some counties, the prices of other food commodities have remained stable. Mr. Speaker, Sir, the ...

On the status of implementation of the recommendations of the reports of the Senate Ad Ho c Committee on Maize, the committee recommended that the CS develops regulations and guidelines on importation of maize and other food crops and stables and tables them in the Senate within 45 days. The Ministry through the Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) has developed the Food Crops Regulations 2019 that will apply to all food crops produced, processed and marketed in Kenya or imported into or exported out of Kenya. The regulations were gazetted on 31st December, 2019 and acceded to by the National ...

5 May 2020 in Senate:
Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. Indeed, the petitioner should be congratulated by the House because our mandate is to oversight counties, yet most of the time we are not on the ground. We need to encourage Kenyan citizens, who are out there and most of the times observe misappropriation of funds by the counties, to use this avenue of petitions to this House. Whichever Committee, and I believe it is the County Public Accounts and Investments Committee (CPAIC), you will commit this Petition to, should deal with it diligently, so that Kenyans may find that this is a path that ...

5 May 2020 in Senate:
There are many cases in counties where monies are allocated to mysterious contractors and work is never done. In fact, I have had occasions where people, not necessarily from my county, have told me about misappropriation of funds in their counties by county governments. We want to encourage the citizens of this country to use this avenue of petitions to the Senate. Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir.
