  • 23 Jul 2008 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, we largely depend on school children for blood donation. It is understandable that school children, on average, have better blood than most of us sitting in this House, mainly because of age. The moment you attain 50 years, you have been attacked by malaria, all kinds of flu and so on. So, there is a likelihood that you may not have blood that is good, but I encourage everybody, including myself, to donate blood. We have five regional blood transfusion centres in the country, apart from the national one in Nairobi. We have transfusion centres in ... view
  • 23 Jul 2008 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, my fellow hon. Member of Parliament, who is a medical doctor, a gynaecologist, specialising in an area which I do not want to go into detail-- view
  • 23 Jul 2008 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, let me go back to the question. My appeal is for us to have a much more serious national blood donation day, to make sure that we have enough reserves of natural blood in our blood bank. I am sure that the steps being taken by the Ministry will ascertain that we have enough blood in the nation. I, again, appeal to the private health institutions--- Hon. Members should appeal to them in their various constituencies that blood is such an essential lifeline for human beings that it should not be bought at a cost that ... view
  • 16 Jul 2008 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I want the Assistant Minister to tell this House 1884 PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES July 16, 2008 why the contract for the current CEO has not been renewed while, according to the records, he has done a very good job for the last two years. view
  • 10 Jul 2008 in National Assembly: Thank you very much, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, for giving me the opportunity to contribute to this debate on the Ministry of Youth and Sports, which is an extremely important Ministry. I listened to Eng. Gumbo talk about the fate of our sportsmen and athletes and it was a very moving contribution. Indeed, some of the most interesting information that we have by this Ministry in this debate is the table that shows financial commitment for on-lending to the youth. Here we have a group of 28 companies and organisations which have committed a total of Kshs715,800,000 towards supporting ... view
  • 10 Jul 2008 in National Assembly: I apologise to my dear friend, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. I hope she can hear me now. I was saying that one of the most important contributions from this Ministry is the document before us, that shows that we have about 28 companies and organisations, which have committed a total of Kshs715,800,000 towards lending to the youth. My proposal is that we should establish a national youth foundation - Kenya National Youth Foundation - to which such funds could be contributed. A foundation managed by distinguished Kenyans who are entrepreneurs or known in various fields of excellence, and probably, ... view
  • 8 Jul 2008 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I beg to reply. (a) I am aware that the construction of hostels for the Kabarnet Medical Training College stalled in 1997. This was because of lack of funds to complete the project. (b) Yes, the project is included in the inventory of stalled projects which is managed by the Ministry of Public Works. (c) My Ministry has been in constant consultations with the Ministry of Public Works that has been allocated funds for completion of stalled projects. The construction of hostels for Kabarnet Medical Training College was supposed to be carried out from the second quarter ... view
  • 8 Jul 2008 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. My Ministry is currently undertaking an audit of all the health facilities that exist, those under construction and those that have stalled. As I said, the process of tendering is under another Ministry called the Ministry of Public Works. However, we are working closely with the Ministry of Public Works because it is in our interest that, that tendering process proceeds with speed. Let me assure the hon. Member that the hon. Minister for Public Works is equally concerned that, that process should be completed as soon as possible. July 8, 2008 PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES 1673 view
  • 8 Jul 2008 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, that indeed, is a "GI" question. The Government procedure must be assumed to be normal. Otherwise, Government processes would not proceed. Where the hon. Member believes that normalcy does not exist, that is a question to be put before another Ministry called the Ministry of State for Provincial Administration and Internal Security. view
  • 2 Jul 2008 in National Assembly: to ask the Minister for Water and Irrigation:- (a) Is the Minister aware that electricity supply to Nyakach Water Supply at Sondu has been disconnected for the last two weeks because of non-payment of electricity bills? (b) When will the bills be paid to enable the people access clean water and avert an imminent out-break of cholera, which has already been reported in some parts of the region? view
