  • 30 Jul 2009 in National Assembly: Thank you very much, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. I rise to support and I want to start by congratulating the Minister, his Assistant Ministers, the Permanent Secretary and the staff of the Ministry because that is one of the Ministries that have actually become visible in the coalition Government. Some are quite invisible, but this is a visible Ministry. view
  • 30 Jul 2009 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I want to pay special commendation to the officers who are in charge of rural electrification, and I want to mention Mr. Zachary Ayieko. Why we are interested to know who that man is and what those officers are all about is because it is very exciting to go to your rural area and see yourself in the dark. This is a new phenomenon for Kenya and it must not be taken lightly or for granted. That is why I am saying that, that is one of the Ministries that is visible. view
  • 30 Jul 2009 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I want to support and give certain recommendations starting, of course, with Nairobi and other urban centres. If you look at the allocations and the remarks on the urban centres, it is assumed by the Ministry that urban centres are electrified. It is really an assumption because urban centres are not central business districts or upmarket areas. It is slums like Korogocho and Mathare. I can assure you that they are totally in the dark! I do know that we have problems because we connect electricity illegally. I speak as “we” because we are the ... view
  • 29 Jul 2009 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I rise to support this Motion. The issue of higher education is not just an issue of learning but also an issue of life. It is through higher education that livelihoods are created. view
  • 28 Jul 2009 in National Assembly: Thank you, Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker. I would like to support. As I support, I would like to raise a few issues. The first issue I would like to raise relates to national hospitals and especially, the Kenyatta National Hospital. For years, scandals have ridden this hospital. We have read about scandal after scandal. However, I must say that of late, we have been impressed with the work that the Kenyatta National Hospital is doing. The burden on Kenyatta National Hospital is too much. I would like to speak as a woman and say that district hospitals must be improved ... view
  • 22 Jul 2009 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, we have seen the kind of urgency that the Government is giving the issue of the Hague, thanks to the post-election violence. We would really like to see the Government take the issue of displaced people seriously. This is more so to children who are no longer going to school and women who were raped. That is why we have asked this Question. Which Ministry is responsible for re-locating children who were displaced from schools, rebuilding schools--- view
  • 22 Jul 2009 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I would like to support this Motion and to start by saying that it is an unfortunate situation we are finding ourselves in, when an hon. Member has to bring this kind of Motion, which is solely the work of the Government. view
  • 22 Jul 2009 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, the work of the Government is to ensure that the people have basic needs. That is basic! On the issue of drought, I want to agree with my colleague and Minister--- view
  • 22 Jul 2009 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. I will not take more than five minutes. view
  • 22 Jul 2009 in National Assembly: I agree with Dr. Kosgey that the issue of drought is related to that of climate change. It is important that the Government steps up to the opportunities that arise around the world. This is because climate change is not an issue for Kenya; it is a global issue. Within this climate change conversation, this is an opportunity for us to, once and for all, deal with the issue of drought as a disaster. view
