  • 21 Apr 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I have a public Petition by the residents of Lurambi in Kakamega County on the construction of speed bumps on the Kakamega-Mumias Road due to the high prevalence of road accidents. I, the undersigned, on behalf of the residents of Lurambi Constituency in Kakamega County, draw the attention of the House to the following:- THAT, a road network is a prerequisite to rapid economic growth and poverty reduction as it influences production costs, creates employment, eases access to markets and opening up of the region for investment; THAT, the Kakamega-Mumias Road facilitates administrative and commercial activities ... view
  • 21 Apr 2016 in National Assembly: Therefore, your humble Petitioners pray that the National Assembly, through the Departmental Committee on Transport, Public Works and Housing:- (i) Intervenes to have the road re-carpeted and speed bumps erected at designated sections of the Kakamega-Mumias Road, particularly at Shibuli Market and other affected areas along the said road; and, (ii) Makes any other order and direction that it deems fit in the circumstances of the case. • 18 Nov 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I also stand to support this Bill. There are some areas I feel we should tackle so that we have a better tax collection mechanism. As one Hon. Member said, we have a problem with queuing of taxpayers at Times Towers. I suggest that we decentralise taxation centres so that we have many areas where we will collect taxes. Some people get discouraged and end up going back without paying or filing returns. • 18 Nov 2015 in National Assembly: Secondly, it is one thing to pay tax and another for the money to reach the Government. We have loopholes on how that money is collected. That is why we are looking at the lifestyles of the tax collectors. They collect money and it ends up in peoples’ pockets. Another area where we should work very seriously is to target the county governments. Today, I read in the papers that my Governor for Kakamega County was complaining that he is only getting Kshs1 billion. Kakamega is a very strong economy and I am sure it can collect more than that. ... view
  • 7 Aug 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Speaker. I also thank the Committee. At least this time you were able to respond to my Statement after five weeks instead of the two weeks you had promised but that is an improvement. I have some few clarifications. I still insist that we had four dismembered bodies in Kakamega Town and this fourth one is the one which made people of KakamegaTown to go to the streets because it had become a habit right from March, April, May until June when we had this fourth body having been dismembered. So, I still feel that the police ... view

  • 7 Aug 2014 in National Assembly: I still feel that the answer given is not satisfactory because we still have insecurity in Kakamega Town. view
  • 7 Aug 2014 in National Assembly: Three more bodies were dismembered and that is why when it went to the fourth one is when Kakamega residents became angered and they had to demonstrate in town. So, it is not only one. So, it is a case which had been going on. view
