  • 12 Nov 2019 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker for giving me an opportunity to add my voice in support of this timely Bill. It is a tribute to all former Members of Parliament who served Kenyans in this august House. I want to mention Hon. Diriye Amin who is my elder brother who served in this capacity as the Member for Wajir East and Hon. Khalif, and their families. Hon. Khalif was a former Member of Parliament who died in the Busia air crash after 2002. There are other Members of Parliament and their families who served in this House. There are many of ... view
  • 12 Nov 2019 in National Assembly: This Bill will benefit 290 former Members of Parliament. However, nearly 130 of them have been deceased so far and their families will benefit from this Bill which is very timely. It will serve Members of Parliament because once a leader, always a leader. Once a Member of Parliament, always a Member of Parliament. The responsibilities that have been bestowed on Members of Parliament; whether in the House or outside, is on each one of them. For those Members of Parliament who served and are still in the midst of our society and they provide leadership roles, I am aware ... view
  • 12 Nov 2019 in National Assembly: As I support this Bill, the salaries of the elder brothers whom I have associated with who were Members of Parliament was less than Kshs5,000. For those who became Members of Parliament in 1974, their income was Kshs2,000. When they came back in 1988 to serve their second terms, their salary was only Kshs5,000. All the family members and other people whom they served in the society who came to Nairobi for further education were housed in their respective houses. They could not afford rent of their rental houses. As Members of Parliament today, we have a mortgage scheme which ... view

  • 9 Oct 2019 in National Assembly: The creation of the Livestock Board is long overdue. We have over 50 years of Independence. Many leaders who have had the interest of livestock farmers have brought such a Bill to the Floor of the House and yet it has not been fruitful. I can see at the end of the tunnel there is light for people who are pursuing livestock farming in this country. I thank the Mover of the Bill, Hon. Bashir, for bring this to the Floor of the House so that the people of this region and the country as a whole can benefit from ... view
  • 9 Oct 2019 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Kenya has nearly 80 per cent arid and semi-arid counties and their livelihood depends on livestock and livestock products. Over the years there has been no proper and organised marketing strategy for people who derive their livelihoods form livestock and livestock products. This board, if created, will certainly provide enormous income and business for people from these counties. Before Independence, in 1958, the Kenya Meat Commission (KMC) Board was created. The KMC was to provide for an off take for livestock from these areas, but it has certainly not met its objectives in trying to mitigate ... view
