  • 25 May 2017 in National Assembly: Thank you. I would like to support the Committee on this. These are licensed businesses. Even if you put 90 per cent taxes on any business, it will not assist us because they will still take part in betting. The most important thing for us is to ensure that businesses are not killed by rivalry. view

  • 18 May 2017 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. From the outset, I oppose this Motion as presented. The EALA is a very important institution. I think as a country, we should send our best to that regional stage. We have been taking our cronies, relatives and losers in party nominations to such an important institution. I think it is wrong. That is what we are trying to do. As a lawyer, I have looked at the law and I think the presentation by the Majority Whip is not well informed, to say the least. I believe it is not well intended. • 18 May 2017 in National Assembly: lost and you cannot transfer that frustration to this House. You cannot use this House to settle political scores. Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, the Report is not tenable in law. Therefore, it should be thrown out to allow this House to proceed with its work. It does not matter whether a party brings one nominee or 100 nominees. I believe it is acceptable. Somebody made reference to Article 50 in his proper interpretation. It means that the nine Members should be from diverse backgrounds and from both genders. However, it does not say anything about the multitudes of people who ... view

  • 17 May 2017 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I want, first of all, to commend my colleague Hon. Ochieng for such a wonderful Bill. He has been bringing good Bills in this House. Indeed, such Members should be appreciated. We know that we need to protect our country from greedy people who are destroying it. We have become a paradise for entrepreneurs. We are now a country where a few people benefit at the expense of the majority. Let us look at the maize saga that is facing us today. How can maize from Mexico reach our port in a span of ... view

  • 17 May 2017 in National Assembly: lot of dumping in this country. We have seen people going to our neighbouring countries to exchange family business interests with the national interests. We know of that issue that caused hullabaloo the other day in Uganda. If we need to make this country good for the future generation, we must think about it first before self. Trade imbalances exist all over the place and they are encouraged by those in power because they are the ones who make decisions. There should be established an identification and reinforcement agency as is stated in this Bill. It will ensure that the ... view
