  • 2 Aug 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I thank the Assistant Minister for the elaborate answer he has given to this House. We are aware that we usually do not get enough science and mathematics teachers. In the past, they have been given incentives. Without science and technology, this country cannot move forward. Given the very low remuneration--- view
  • 2 Aug 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, it is surprising to note that even the Front Bench is not listening. We know that science and mathematics are crucial for moving this country forward. We do not have enough science and mathematics teachers. In the past, they used to receive incentives and that is why I am asking why those teachers cannot be paid allowances. Could the Assistant 2556 PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES August 2, 2006 Minister tell us the incentives he has put in place to make sure that he attracts more teachers to science and mathematics? view
  • 2 Aug 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, computerization and provision of television sets and videos are crucial for science and mathematics teaching in high schools. Could the Assistant Minister tell us the plan he has to ensure that every constituency has some schools with those facilities? view
  • 2 Aug 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I want to donate a minute each to the following hon. Members, Messrs. Arungah, Y.M. Haji, Prof. Mango and Dr. Ojiambo. view
  • 2 Aug 2006 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. For a while, I was seated there thinking I was running out of time to thank the many hon. Members who have expressed interest in this Motion since last week. As you can see, this is an issue that is of concern to all of us. I thank the Minister for arriving prematurely from overseas to make sure that he is in the House when we are concluding this Motion. We met at the airport yesterday. You cannot govern people on empty stomachs. This is a governance issue and it should be addressed. ... view
  • 26 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, foul smell continues to emanate from the scene of the fire tragedy months after the tragedy. Could the Minister assure us that, indeed, the bodies of the Kenyans who perished in the fire have been removed? view
  • 26 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. I just want to echo all the sentiments that were expressed in support of this Motion. It is long overdue. The Kenyan consumers are the most abused. They have nowhere to take their complaints to. I am speaking as somebody who served on the Kenya Bureau of Standards Board for about 12 years. The Kenya Bureau of Standards only addresses itself to those issues which are brought to them by the consumer. But there is no information to the consumer as to where they can raise their complaints. This will be a sad ... view
  • 26 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I beg to move the following Motion:- THAT, in view of the fact that Kenya has continued to persistently experience famine and drought; considering that hunger has been experienced every year without any permanent solution by the Government; cognisant of the fact that famine has been declared a national disaster, and that there is no law or special body to take care of famine issues in Kenya; this House do grant leave for the introduction of a Bill entitled "The National Famine and Drought Management Bill July 26, 2006 PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES 2365 2006" to establish ... view
  • 26 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, this is a very important issue to Kenyans. You are aware that during the previous famine, four million Kenyans were affected. It was a nationwide drought and a nationwide famine. The Government got involved and Kenyans of all walks of life were affected. They therefore, went ahead and donated food and money. In fact, even prisoners went on a fast in order to make a contribution to that famine. I also want to acknowledge that the Government raised an alert that the drought was a national disaster. The Government was able to bring in relief ... view
