Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairlady, I need to be heard. I want to put it very categorically that there has been a trend of bribing Members in this House. Today, we saw money being distributed by Hon. Gedi to Members to vote for the Political Parties (Amendment) Bill. I want to tell them that you can bribe Members here but not the people of Kenya. As a son of Mau Mau, I cannot be intimidated by these hecklers and COVID-19 billionaires. There is evidence that money was changing hands in this House.

Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I want to comment on the issue of mechanisation of tea harvesting. Mechanisation is not a bad thing because technology increases productivity even per capita. The most mechanised economies are the ones that have the highest revenues per person. The issue is usually about timing because in an economy like ours, where a majority of the citizenry are unemployed, machines cannot come and replace human labour. Therefore, that is the only reason I support the Petition, but progressively, an economy thrives as we adopt and continue to embrace technology. The whole issue is about the fight ...

Thank you very much, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me this opportunity. The State of the Nation Address by the President yesterday was both underwhelming and disappointing because we came here with great expectations. We thought he would say something around agriculture and farmers. As you know, agriculture forms the backbone of our economy but issues of farmers were relegated to “ et cetera” and “any other business.” First, the President was not factual to insinuate to this House that tea farmers are having their best year in a decade or so. In fact, tea farmers are crying out ...

get as an aggregate is around Kshs6.8 trillion. Therefore, for the Kenyan economy to have grown to Kshs11 trillion, it ought to have grown by 10 to 11 per cent per annum compounded for the eight years. Therefore, Kenya ought to have been placed as the highest growing economy in the world. Disappointingly, if you compound the average, as reported by this Government, it comes to a paltry 6.8. Either the President's Speech or the data provided by this Government is wrong. I can see that my time is almost up. Lastly, I want to speak to the issue of ...

Thank you very much, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I rise to support. When you talk about pension, it is not a favour that is given to the retired personnel. It is a right. By definition, this is money that is set aside when the retired employee is active at work and, therefore, it is their money that has been set aside to be paid at a later day. Therefore, there is no reason for the benefits that are accrued to the retiree to be kept for too long. I say so because even in our budget making process, pensions fall ...

On a point of order, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I am not a Chair of any of the Committees you have called, but I rise on a matter of national importance. Yesterday, we were treated to a debacle and saw violence being meted on the Deputy President in Kisumu. Therefore, as a representative of the people, I rise to condemn those acts of violence especially at this electioneering period when we see many desperate politicians…

Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me the opportunity. In my view, the Report from the Committee is a bit shallow and frivolous. One, it is not far-reaching in its recommendations. In the same measure, I bemoan that today the EPRA came out and purported to reduce the fuel prices in Kenya, especially around Nairobi, by Kshs5. Kenyans expect more than just Kshs5. I also have to say that we need to remove politics from the entire matrix of fuel. We saw one of our politicians last week purporting to have directed that the fuel prices come down. ...
