  • 19 Sep 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I wish the hon. Member, who is my friend, had followed the due process yesterday. By today, the health facility would be receiving medical supplies from KEMSA. view
  • 12 Sep 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, the Ministry of Medical Services wishes to make it clear that the intended Doctors’ Strike which the Kenya Medical Practioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union intends to call tomorrow, Thursday, 13th September, 2012, is ill advised and cannot be justified. Should it take place, it will be in violation of a return-to-work formula signed between the Minister and the Union under which the Ministry was to fulfill a number of recommendations which it has faithfully done. From the outset, I wish to say that the union’s current demand that the Government needs to pay some allowance to ... view
  • 12 Sep 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, first of all, I would like to start with Dr. Nuh’s question. The reason why this strike is illegal is that we did have an understanding last year at the time when the doctors were on strike and ironed out all those issues. Indeed, the Government did its view
  • 12 Sep 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, as I said, the bone of contention is that most of the Government registrars want to join the private registrars. We have told them that since the Government has been paying for those doctors who are doing their Masters Degrees courses, there is no need for them to go to the streets. If they do so, it will be unfortunate. We have recalled all the doctors who are on leave. We also have the private hospitals and the Government registrars. So, there is no cause for alarm. Everything is under control. view
  • 11 Sep 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I have been ready for the last three weeks to dissect this issue, but the Member has been away. So, I am ready to deliver the Statement now. view
  • 6 Sep 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, it is not long because the hon. Member who requested for this Ministerial Statement indicated that he wanted it deferred till Tuesday, next week, because he is not in the House now. view
  • 5 Sep 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I beg to reply. (a) I am aware that the newly constructed Garba-Tulla Operation Theatre was completed and handed over to the Ministry in October 2011. (b) Garba-Tulla Operation Theatre has not been equipped and operationalised because of budgetary constraints and shortage of theatre staff. To become operational, a theatre requires specialized equipment and instruments as well as staff trained in theatre procedures; nurses and anesthetists. (c)The Garba-Tulla Operation Theatre will be considered for allocation of theatre equipment and instruments from those that will be procured in the current financial year. The procurement process has ... view
  • 5 Sep 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I would like to agree with the hon. Member that this process has taken long but I want to confirm to this House that, indeed, the process has started and on or before October, the equipment will be delivered. I will make sure that I deliver the equipment myself. view
  • 5 Sep 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I know most of the projects which were completed then were not equipped with theatre equipment and it was because we did not have not enough funds. However, the Government through the Ministry of Finance gave us allocations and we have started the procurement process. As I speak today in this House, the process is ongoing and I can even mention the list of hospitals which are going to benefit from this equipment. We have Nyamache, Mwatate, Miteitei, Chebiemit, Manyala, Engineer, view
  • 5 Sep 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I said that the list is not limited to the following, so I am sure your facility will be among the listed which will be provided with the equipment. view
