  • 21 Apr 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, it is true there were some demonstrations, but we did not have the money. I am happy to inform this House that it was factored in, in the last Supplementary Budget, which we recently passed in this House. As I speak, we have posted all the interns and I can table the list of all the postings that were done. view
  • 21 Apr 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, we budgeted for the same, but it was never factored in the last Financial Year’s Budget. However, the issue was revisited in the Supplementary Budget, which the House passed recently. view
  • 21 Apr 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, as long as we are given money by the Treasury, we will not have this kind of problems any more. view
  • 21 Apr 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I have told the House that we do factor this in our budget, but if the Treasury has not factored it in the national Budget, there is no way we can send these interns to their stations without money. view
  • 21 Apr 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, we are consulting with the Treasury and they have assured us that they will factor this in the Budget. view

(a) The Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) has an X-Ray screening unit model D15 acquired in 1992, which has been in use for general fluoroscopic procedures, mainly radiological examinations of the alimentary canal, general urinary systems and vascular systems. This machine broke down on 8th March, 2011, and the hospital maintenance unit is unable to repair it. This is because spare parts are no longer manufactured as the machine’s technology is now obsolete. It requires replacement. Towards this end, the hospital has factored Kshs30 million in the 2011/2012 Budget to procure a ... view
  • 5 Apr 2011 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I think I was very clear. I said that the machine was procured in 1992. However, its spare parts are not available locally. We have procured a modern digital machine which is working right now. For cancer treatment, we have other modern machines which are based at the Kenyatta National Hospital. Since that machine is not only used to treat cancer, people suffering from other diseases are catered for. The cobalt machine is now working as we speak. view
  • 5 Apr 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, for a hospital to be called a district hospital; it must have several wards, a theater, a women’s ward, a children’s ward and a men’s ward, among other facilities. But due to budget constraints, the Ministry could not purchase equipment for all the district hospitals which were upgraded last year. However, we have factored in some money to procure equipment during this financial year. view
  • 5 Apr 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker Sir, the machine that the hon. Member is talking about is not a cancer detecting machine. We have machines at the Kenyatta National Hospital which detect cancer cells. We treat cancer patients. view
