  • 15 Jun 2017 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker, for giving me this opportunity. First and foremost, I would like to thank the people of Lafey, and more so the people of the greater Mandera East Constituency, whom I have represented many times within and outside this Parliament. I would also like to join my colleagues who have said that as we go to campaign for the forthcoming general election, we need to have peaceful elections. We should be in the forefront in ensuring that we have peaceful elections because Kenya is greater than any of us. view
  • 15 Jun 2017 in National Assembly: As people from Mandera County, we want the security agencies, in particular our defence forces, to ensure that we have a secure boarder so that we can exercise our democratic rights in free and fair elections without interference from any quarters, particularly from foreign militia. You will recall that a fortnight ago, five security personnel escorting the Governor of Mandera County were killed because of “mining” of our roads by elements of a foreign militia. We were moving in a convoy, trying to inspect development projects and engage in a meet-the- people-tour, but were not able to conclude our trip ... view

  • 25 Aug 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. The NG-CDF is very popular. Most Kenyans support it. The amendment Bill before the House is very unfair. It should not be allowed to pass for reasons I will explain. When this country gained independence in 1963, there was a policy to develop the arable lands and not the arid lands. As such, the arid lands have been left behind and the people there are marred with abject poverty. Arid lands constitute more than 70 per cent of Kenya’s land mass. If those areas were properly developed, they would be feeding this country today. ... view
  • 25 Aug 2016 in National Assembly: equally amongst the constituencies. Why can we not give the NG-CDF a chance until when we have a level play ground? We should allow the level of development in those areas to increase. We live in one country, and our children should enjoy the similar levels literacy. The literacy levels in some parts of this country are below 20 per cent, while in other areas we have literacy levels of 90 per cent. People in the ASAL areas have not been accessing education, which we all know is very important. Is it fair to take away what has been given ... view
  • 2 Dec 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. This Motion before us is very important. The environment is a very important issue in our country. If we talk about waste management especially in our counties, it is very wanting. If you go to Mombasa which is a gateway to Kenya, the whole area is stinking as you enter the town because of poor management of our waste. It is important that waste management in all our counties is done properly. Land must be allocated to ensure that waste is properly disposed of otherwise we will have stinking towns everywhere in this country. ... view
  • 5 Aug 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. From the outset, I would like to support this Bill. The establishment of the economic zones will diversify our economy and we will achieve the double-digit growth that this country has always yearned for. The establishment of these zones will add value to our goods and they will be competitive in the international market. This will also create employment. I hope the establishment of these zones will be replicated in other parts of the country particularly in northern Kenya where we have a lot of land. The growth of any industry will depend on ... view
  • 16 Apr 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. At the outset, I would like to support the adoption of this Report which is very important. The Pan-African Parliament is an important institution that Africa needs. This Parliament will be the reconnaissance of the African dream; the pan Africanism which our forefathers, the late Nkrumah, Jomo Kenyatta and Julius Nyerere, among others, dreamed and had a vision of. I hope this new African Parliament will address and fulfill this vision which our forefathers had. Having said that, the Pan-African Parliament should address the issue of climate change. As my colleague has just stated, ... view
