  • 25 Oct 2022 in Senate: As you have seen in other malls that, in fact, if you spend a certain amount of money buying goods at a certain shop, they allow you to validate your parking at that shop. view
  • 25 Oct 2022 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, we are speaking about critical services whether they are offered by private or public institutions such as schools, hospitals or airports, including Wilson Airport. We would want the Ministry of Transport to come with a policy framework to ensure that there are no exorbitant parking fees that are being charged. This is especially so for services such as the JKIA and the example that I have given for just an Uber driver who is dropping off a client. I beg to move and ask one of my Members of the Nairobi City County Delegation, Sen. Kibwana ... view
  • 25 Oct 2022 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir. I take this opportunity to welcome the students and teachers from Huruma Girls, in Makadara Constituency. Nairobi is the largest delegation in the Senate. We have seven Members of the Senate from Nairobi led by myself. I saw Sen. Cherarkey asking who the others are. I want to make it a tradition to be introducing these colleagues of mine to the House. We have Sen. Nyamu who is a nominated Senator, Sen. Kibwana, Sen. Beth Syengo and Sen. Veronica Maina who are seated next to me. With my exception, it is a very strong ... view
  • 25 Oct 2022 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, if you allow me, please allow one Member of the delegation from Nairobi to help me in welcoming them. Since I have already nominated the person to vote in my absentia, I request that you allow Sen. Beth to welcome these lovely students to the Senate and just to encourage them that they keep at it at school, listen to their teachers and all their dreams will come true. view
  • 25 Oct 2022 in Senate: Thank you, very much and God bless you. view
  • 19 Oct 2022 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, I beg to move- THAT, aware that many urban areas and towns in Kenya lack designated car parking areas as a result of imbalance between parking supply and demand mainly due to ineffective land use planning and miscalculations of space requirements, thereby leading to exorbitant parking fees; NOTING THAT, most essential services offered in hospitals, educational institutions, airports, shopping malls and other public utilities are offered in urban centres, and other designated areas that charge parking fees to access; ACKNOWLEDGING, that whether they are delivered by public or private providers, essential services such as health, banking, education, ... view
  • 19 Oct 2022 in Senate: The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. A certified version of this Report can be obtained from the Hansard Editor, Senate. view
  • 19 Oct 2022 in Senate: CONCERNED, that access to hospitals, educational institutions, airports, shopping malls and other places offering essential services might be hindered due to exorbitant parking fees levied on motorists accessing these services; FURTHER CONCERNED, that charging entry fees amount to double taxation as the motorists who would have paid the parking fees will still pay for the services they seek; NOW THEREFORE, the Senate urges the Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Housing and Physical Planning together with the Council of Governors to come up with a policy framework to create an enabling environment for protection of motorists accessing essential services from paying exorbitant ... view
  • 18 Oct 2022 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Temporary Speaker. I rise to support this Petition. I have been privileged to visit the islands that my brother, Sen. M. Kajwang’, has spoken about on multiple occasions. The first time, I was accompanied by Sen. Wakili Sigei, the Senator for Bomet County. He can bear me witness that this is one of the most beautiful places you can ever visit in our country. In fact, I have had a discussion with the Nairobi City County delegation; my sisters, Sen. Tabitha Mutinda and Sen. Nyamu, that when we retreat to discuss matters of Nairobi City County, we ... view
  • 18 Oct 2022 in Senate: I have seen very few places on Lake Victoria that have white, sandy beaches and palm trees. I have seen only one on the other side of Uganda in Entebbe and this Takawiri Island. Madam Temporary Speaker, it is very unfortunate and inequitable as the Senator for Makueni County has alluded to, that we have ferry services on one side of the country. Many of us here will bear witness that if it is not the ferry connecting Mombasa to Kwale County, in fact, the tourism business and industry in Kwale would not be thriving the way it is. It ... view
