They informed the Committee that it is true that 250 former employees of Thika Municipal Council reported to the District Labour Officer, Thika, that their services were terminated on 5th November, 2008, and that the officers received the workers and interviewed them on the reasons as to why their services were terminated. • 26 Oct 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, therefore, in accordance with the provisions of the Employment Act, 2007, the District Labour Officer formed the opinion that the 250 employees were actually monthly paid employees, and not casual workers as alleged by the Council. A demand notice was written by the District Labour Officer to Thika Municipal Council to pay, but the Council ignored the notice. A charge sheet was also prepared for the purpose of prosecuting the Council for the recovery of the terminal benefits on behalf of the affected employees. However, the workers have not gone back to the District Labour ... view

The Thika Municipal Council ignored the summons to appear before the Ministry of Local Government to try and resolve the issue of the 250 works. They refused to go to the ... view
  • 26 Oct 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I would like to take this chance to sincerely thank all hon. Members who contributed to this Motion. I want to thank hon. William Kabogo for raising the Question. I would also like to thank the Minister who has just spoken. He has reminded us that we have a new Constitution, this is a new country and we must look at issues in a very transparent manner as we deal with them. • 12 Oct 2011 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. Is the Assistant Minister in order to tell us there is a policy that undermines and violates the labour laws in this country? view
  • 7 Sep 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, thank you for giving me this chance to add my voice to this very important Motion. I sit in this Committee. We had a challenge because of all the pending Bills that we were debating here in Parliament. There was a lot of work in Parliament, so we sacrificed to do more here and requested for this extension so that we can reach out to every corner of this country. We have gone to several parts of the country but we have not reached everywhere. The youths and women who are displaced have heard about ... view

A teacher is always a teacher. I feel that our Government is not serious. We are going to the third day and the children are not going to school. We are wasting a lot of time and this is basically because of poor planning. Our Government is still in the traditional way of planning and doing things. We have moved from there. We have a new Constitution which demands that we change the way we used ... view
