  • 7 Aug 2014 in National Assembly: I would like to say that, at this point in time, this Bill comes at an opportune moment since the mining sector has become alive. At this point in time, I know what I am about to say has been repeated by many other Members of Parliament and so, I will try not to be so repetitive. Had Kenya not taken into consideration the consequences of taxation in the mining sector, then what has happened in Uganda would be most likely The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. • 7 Aug 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, I would also like to say that it really perturbs me that in the exempt persons section, we have not yet included our very brave athletes. During these tough times our country is going through, whereby insecurity is targeting the amount of revenue that we are earning, I feel that it is extremely unfortunate that we are taxing the people who are actually flying our flag internationally. So, I would like to urge the Committee to take that into consideration and include athletes as exempt persons. view
  • 7 Aug 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, I would also like to add that as much as we say that Kenya has a high rate of taxation. We tax our businesses up to 44.2 percent of the income that is earned and the profit of the income that is earned, whereas Uganda charges 36per cent and Rwanda charges 29.9 percent. What does that tell us? That tells us that in one way, we are trying to attract investors to come and invest in our country. We are also, at the same time, trying to punish them by high taxations. So, perhaps this, in ... view

  • 30 Jul 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Deputy Speaker, for giving me this opportunity to contribute to this very important Bill. From the outset, I would like to say that this House, in as much as it has passed and will pass so many important Bills, the Climate Change Bill is equally important. Probably, it is even more important than the Matrimonial Bill. Climate change is something that touches the life of each and every person of the society and the communities that we live in. Our industries are actually inter-connected. I feel that people have been taking the climate change concept rather as ... view
  • 24 Jul 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Deputy Speaker. I would like the Chair to shed light on the following. He mentioned Upper Hill Secondary School in Nairobi where they are going to put up a sports centre of excellence, but as far as I am aware there is no centre being put up in any schools in the slum areas, yet there are many schools in the slum areas of Nairobi. I would like some clarification as to whether there any plans for putting up sports centres of excellence in the slum areas of Nairobi. view
  • 17 Jul 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, I seek clarification on this very pertinent issue because as we talk about national heritage, some very senior Members of Parliament have talked about the external side of KICC. If at any point in time the Chairman would clarify how much Samsung has been able to pay for the upkeep of the KICC, would they say how much in maintenance is going towards the upkeep of the toilets at the KICC? This is because I have evidence and I can tell you that the people who go to the KICC have a very big problem because there are ... view
  • 16 Jul 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for giving me this much-awaited opportunity to support this Bill.
