  • 30 May 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, our teachers in this country have worked very tirelessly to teach our young generation. Our teachers have sacrificed so much in this country to see that this country has people who are well educated and who will develop it. Worldwide, teachers are well respected because these are the people who shape the destiny of any country and, therefore, they deserve their respect and the benefits that they are entitled to. Teachers of this country have done a lot of good work and as you have heard from the Mover of this Motion, these teachers have ... view
  • 30 May 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I belong to the Departmental Committee on Education, Research and Technology. Our committee has fully endorsed the demands the teachers have made regarding these payments that have been pending for many years. The decision was made by the court that these teachers be paid. Our committee has view
  • 29 May 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, first, I want to thank the Assistant Minister for the good work they are doing, particularly on research on the Cassava Mosaic Disease. This is a disease that has been a major problem on this crop. I want to thank him for the good job that is being done particularly by KARI. However, I want to know why the farmers are not willing to take new varieties of cassava which are resistant to this disease. What are the reasons? view
  • 23 May 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, the problem of sand harvesting and environmental degradation is widespread throughout the country. This is not a problem only confined to Machakos or Eastern Province. Could the Assistant Minister tell us the regulations he has put in place so that the environmental officers he is posting in each district can take a detailed inventory of all sand harvesting areas, their environmental conditions and enforce the Environmental Management and Co-ordination Act (EMCA)? view
  • 23 May 2012 in National Assembly: asked the Minister for Forestry and Wildlife:- (a) what steps his Ministry has taken to control Santa Maria Feverfens weed (Parthenium Hysterophorusa), which was declared as a noxious weed under the Suppression of Noxious Weeds Act on 13th April, 2010; and, (b) what sectoral coordination mechanisms the Ministry has put in place to control the weed, considering that it poses a great threat to biodiversity, agriculture, wildlife, livestock and human health. view
  • 23 May 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I wish to thank the Minister for the good answer. However, could he inform this House what is being done to deal with this weed, particularly in national parks because the information available shows that most of our national parks particularly Maasai Mara and Tsavo National Park have been invaded by this weed. This weed is as dangerous as the famous Mathenge weed and unless it is controlled it is going to get out of hand. It will be a big menace to this country. view
  • 23 May 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, as you have heard from the Minister, this is a very dangerous weed. Unless we take serious remedial measures right now, it is going to cause a major problem to agricultural and livestock production, as well as in tourism, in this country. What regulations does the Ministry have to ensure that people who go outside this country do not introduce new species of plant materials to our country? When new species are introduced to our country, they become obnoxious and invasive. view
  • 23 May 2012 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. Is the Minister in order to avoid answering my question? I wanted to know what enforcement mechanisms have been put in place, particularly at our airports and other entry points, to ensure that people do not introduce new weeds or new plants to this country. view
  • 16 May 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I wish to thank the Prime Minister for the elaborate Statement he has given on disaster management reduction. To deal with disasters, you need early warning information. To get early warning information, it must be rapid and quick. The easiest way to get early warning information is through earth observation satellites. This country has had an earth satellite receiving station at San Marco since 1962. This country does not use this station, which provides early warning information every 15 seconds on what is going on in the entire globe. When is the Kenya Government going to ... view
