  • 16 Feb 2021 in National Assembly: access qualified teachers in their classrooms. So, in short, Yusuf Haji’s role in this country, with a lot of humility, is an outstanding statesman that all of us ought really to emulate. A lot has been said in honour of Yusuf Haji. He was the Chair of BBI and how he handled the BBI even during presentation, of course, depicts a very serious statesman. I join my colleagues in urging the rest of us who are still very averse and have issues with the BBI to reconsider as the greatest gift to Hon. Yusuf Haji. This country requires both political ... view
  • 16 Feb 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I rise to support the Bill. This is going to be one of the most important Bills in implementing the Constitution of Kenya. I am saying so because Article 10(2)(a) of the Constitution, on national values and principles of governance, talks about patriotism, national unity, sharing and devolution of power, the rule of law, democracy and participation of the people of Kenya. I am particular about democracy and participation of the people of Kenya. We have talked about many issues, ranging from constitutional amendments to key issues that are very dear to the people ... view
  • 16 Feb 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for giving me the opportunity to contribute to this Motion. At the outset, I would like to thank the Committee for bringing the Motion on Sessional Paper No.1 of 2020 on the Kenya Wildlife Policy. I have looked at the policy and it is clear that the purpose or rationale for coming up with it was to make it more robust because the existing policy was not robust enough to address emerging challenges and realities in the wildlife sector. As I support this Motion, I do so with one specific reservation or concern that ... view
  • 11 Feb 2021 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, I rise to ask the Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection the following Question: (i) Could the Cabinet Secretary explain why the Ministry’s Labour Officers all over the country are not being facilitated to preside over the on-going trade unions elections, contrary to the norms and provisions of the law? (ii) Why were check-off deductions and remittances to trade unions in the health sector stopped vide a letter dated 22nd December 2020 from the Cabinet Secretary for Health to the Ministry of Public Service and Gender? (iii) What measures has the Ministry put in place to ensure ... view

  • 26 Nov 2020 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker. Any Question asked in this House does not belong to a Member of Parliament. They are Questions of national importance touching on citizenship. Dropping the Question merely because the Member who asked it is not in the House is not fair representation. We must endeavour to expand our democratic space in terms of representation. There are situations where due to circumstances beyond our control, Members of Parliament may not be in the House. One such circumstance is yesterday’s launch of the signatures which most of us attended and could not even attend some Committee meetings. ... view

  • 26 Nov 2020 in National Assembly: I beg to move the following Motion: THAT, aware that according to the World Health Organization, an estimated 15 per cent of the world’s population live with some form of disability or different ability, with 80 per cent of them living in developing countries; further aware that in Kenya, approximately 6.5 million people live with some form of disability out of whom, nearly 3.8 million are women and girls, while approximately 85 per cent of the total number live in abject poverty; concerned that a majority of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) face numerous challenges including being denied their fundamental rights ... view
  • 26 Nov 2020 in National Assembly: poverty and this cycle will repeat itself. In this country, PWDs are considered a burden to their families. They cannot move or go to work or anywhere else even to see the city. The other day, the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system was introduced in the country. However, we said that there is no point of a PWD having a wheel chair and yet, they cannot get into the BRT train to go to the city from Kawangware or Kayole. That is a challenge. I am passionate about PWDs. I am now five years old being a disabled woman and ... view
