  • 7 Dec 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, my brother, hon. Imanyara also raised the question of the cost element of this operation. This Motion intends that when the UN takes over the cost element and enabling, that is, giving soldiers arms, vehicles, salaries and everything, it will save the country a colossal amount of money. Hon. Mungatana raised the question of us, as members, being engaged in Somalia. We are very proud, as a country, to have managed to convince the UN Security Council that we, as neighbours, have originally refused to contribute soldiers because we were conscious of our neighbourhood with Somalia, ... view
  • 7 Dec 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, hon. Konchella raised the question of zones and that was very rightly so. We said that there should be some sectors of AMISOM. There should be the sector of Mogadishu, another one neighbouring Ethiopia and a third sector which neighbours Kenya. Therefore, the control will be done by us, as the contributing country and this will take care of our interest. view

  • 7 Dec 2011 in National Assembly: right now is over 144 dead militants and five training camps with armament have been destroyed by our troops. This is against the loss of 11 Transitional Federal Government (TFG) soldiers who have been killed and 25 have been injured. Four members of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) have been killed and 11 have been injured. There are also five who died in the helicopter crash. Those who surrendered are seven. view
  • 7 Dec 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, having said that, I would like to thank all the hon. Members for the overwhelming support that they have given this Motion. This will make our soldiers to know that they have brothers and sisters who are mindful of their welfare. Therefore, they will be fighting harder than they have already done. view

  • 6 Dec 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, as the Minister has rightly said, I accompanied him to Sudan. I am really saddened that in spite of the fact that he used one-and-a-half hours and all the skills that he has both as a lawyer and as a diplomat to convince President Al Bashir to stand down the threat that he was giving and succeeded, unfortunately, yesterday some activists in Non- Governmental Organizations (NGOs) who want to sustain themselves were attacking him directly, when what he only did as a Minister was to fight for the interest of Kenya, otherwise Kenya would have suffered. Seventy ... view
  • 1 Nov 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, last week, hon. Mungatana raised a concern about the statement made by the President of Somalia on the operation that is going on inside Somalia territory, and whether our troops will be fought both by the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) and the Al Shabaab . The Al Shabaab, obviously, will be fighting back because we are fighting with them, but it will not happen that the TFG will fight the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), because we are together in this war and our job was to assist them in the front; we are assisting them. So, ... view
  • 1 Nov 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, you will recall that yesterday, the hon. Prime Minister of Somalia, led a high-powered delegation came to Nairobi and both our Prime Minister and myself met them. We had a very fruitful discussion. He has said in his statement that he had come here with the consent of the President of Somalia, and that there will be no problem; we are together in this war. view
