• 19 Apr 2023 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I would like to contribute on this Bill. As you are aware, the responsibility of this Senate is to safeguard interests of counties and see that devolution succeeds. In the last budget of the Financial Year 2022/2023, counties were given Kshs370 billion. To date, Kshs125 billion has not been disbursed. Most counties are facing problems serving wananchi. We have seen our doctors on the streets which is very unfortunate. People of that cadre should not be on the streets demonstrating around because of salaries. The Committee received a comprehensive response from the Cabinet Secretary which was shared to the requester of the Statement. view
• 11 Apr 2023 in Senate: The Committee undertook a county visit to Tharaka Nithi County from 20th to 21st January, 2023 to ascertain the status of the delayed operationalization of Kathwana Town as the County headquarters; and held meetings with the EACC and the Controller of Budget to deliberate on matters affecting the stalled construction of the Tharaka Nithi County Assembly Chambers. view

• 11 Apr 2023 in Senate: Mr. Speaker Sir, in the course of its investigations, the Committee has made the following key findings - (1) THAT Tharaka Nithi County was among the Counties that received the conditional grant intended to supplement financing of the construction of County Headquarters and as at June 2022 the Cumulative expenditure for the construction was Kshs217 million and the project was 85 per cent complete. (2) THAT there is lack of adequate infrastructure in Kathwana town that can accommodate all the national Government departments.
