• 9 Aug 2023 in Senate: The issue of the acute shortage of teachers in Wajir and the entire region of Northern Kenya especially in the three counties of Mandera, Wajir and Garissa has been long overdue. I know that there are so many teachers who have been moving. There is a high turnover of teachers because of insecurity. TSC has used the region as a recruitment centre. I come from Wajir County, which is 56,000 Square Kilometres and it is a landlocked area. There is no river that flows; there are temporary flowing streams. However, the land is endowed with underground water. However, because of the dry seasons that are very frequent, water is now becoming very scarce. I am aware that in 2013, 2017 and up to 2022, there was a major dam that was supposed to be constructed in a place called Bute. Bute is one of our high-potential areas at the slopes towards the end or the start of the Ethiopian Highlands. That dam has not been constructed up to now. We are wondering, what is happening.
