As I said, if any MP – God forbid – dies without a will, then their wives or daughters will be subjected to customary laws. Customary laws, while very useful, tend to insubordinate cultural norms, especially women and girls. Therefore, to protect them, we must make sure that the laws that exist provide this protection for women. The law also gives priority to fathers over mother by expressly granting them precedence to inherit a deceased child’s property whenever the intestacy leaves no surviving spouse or children.
