  • 19 Mar 2014 in National Assembly: Whether you have long or short hair has no bearing on your scores after you do examinations. There was a school in western Kenya that said that for the girls to pass this year’s KCSE examination, they must all shave their hair. That is ridiculous and shameful. The Vice- Chair can take seven days and we can give him the schools in Kenya, some of them national, which do not want our Muslim girls to wear scarfs. view
  • 19 Mar 2014 in National Assembly: On the matter of the long trousers, that is not a serious issue. They can wear long skirts and shorts; the most critical issue is the hijab. • 19 Mar 2014 in National Assembly: THAT, Pursuant to the provisions of Standing Order No.30(3)(a), this House resolves to extend its sitting time today until the conclusion of business appearing as Order No.12 on the Order Paper. view
  • 19 Mar 2014 in National Assembly: Order No.12, on the Order Paper is a serious and weighty matter and is at the Committee of the whole House stage; we shall discuss the Marriage Bill (National Assembly Bill No.13 of 2013). Amendments to it are on the Order Paper and I am sure further amendments by Members to this Bill might take quite substantial time of the day. • 19 Mar 2014 in National Assembly: Since the Marriage Bill is serious, and touches on the institution of marriage, the family and the nation, we need to set the record straight. This is a law that is going to govern families, real or perceived for many years to come. So I will ask my colleagues that we extend the sitting of the House up to when we will dispose of Order No.12, that is the Committee of the whole House on the Marriage Bill. view

  • 19 Mar 2014 in National Assembly: I want to urge my colleagues that we do not want to leave the House this afternoon, if you grant my wish, and later we find you in the corridors of court with many moribund issues. You know the law will be against you, if we will pass the Bill today. The Marriage Bill is very critical to all of us and the nation. view
  • 19 Mar 2014 in National Assembly: I will ask my colleague, hon. Jakoyo Midiwo, to second that Procedural Motion. view
