  • 30 Jun 2010 in National Assembly: With those many remarks, I beg to wholeheartedly support this Report for adoption. view
  • 30 Jun 2010 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker. From the onset, I want to commend the good work done by the Committee on Education, Research and Technology led by my good friend, hon. Koech. Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, on the onset, again, I want to commend the good work that the current Vice-Chancellor of Kenyatta University, Prof. Mugendi, is doing. I want to state here that you can even look at the infrastructure that is in place today in Kenyatta University and compare it with ten years ago and you will accept that it is an institution with progress and development; you ... view
  • 30 Jun 2010 in National Assembly: Students Organisation, Union problems came up. So, we are telling the Vice-Chancellor and the rest that if the students feel they like “x” and “y” and they elect them as their leaders, the university administration has no business in dictating who to work with. It is the business of the students to elect their leaders. Then, I think, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, there is an issue of security; the Minister of State for Provincial Administration and Internal Security must create a special unit that will deal with the riots in our institutions; police stations must be established closer to universities. ... view
  • 30 Jun 2010 in National Assembly: the ones that create the human resource that this country is proud of. The institutions create the kind of human resource we need for Vision 2030. We need to build one Kenya. We should go back to the early 1980s and 1970s when Kenyan students in universities professed one Kenya. Whether you were from a poor country or whichever part of the country, they were all students. That is the kind of culture we want to build. Finally, if this Report is adopted by Parliament and is implemented for those that it is meant for, there will be change at ... view
  • 29 Jun 2010 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Speaker, Sir. This is the third time I am ready to answer this Question from the Ministry of Livestock. I can see that 80 per cent of hon. Members from the Coast are here, unless Mr. Mwakulegwa is attending as a single member. He has an organization called Coast Parliamentary Group. Can we get some directions? Mr. Yakub and a number of them are here! So, can we get to the bottom of the matter just like we have handled the matter regarding the Cabinet meeting? view
  • 24 Jun 2010 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. Could the hon. Member substantiate the claim that the Government has become bedfellows with corruption? We need that substantiation. view
  • 24 Jun 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I stand to oppose this Report. I have all my reasons. The czar of KACC and the investigative assistant director we are looking for is not about eloquence. It is not about how you can be a good public speaker. It is about your integrity, your history. It is about the kind of person we want to give this job to. For you to assess the integrity of an individual, you must assess his history. We cannot, and I want Members to bear me out that the parliamentary legal committee did its part, the final ... view
  • 24 Jun 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I think in the debate, this must be very clear and this House must take these three names very seriously. view
  • 24 Jun 2010 in National Assembly: I am referring to the institution called the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission (KACC). It is a very important institution. We know the holder of that office enjoys security of tenure and a good package. This House has a moral obligation and history will judge you that one day, we gave a guy a job just because he is a political activist, just because he is eloquent, just because he represented the corrupt of the most corrupt, just because he slept in the same bed with the most corrupt governments. We must be serious and have integrity ourselves. Let us give this ... view
