  • 16 Jul 2024 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, thank you for giving me this opportunity to contribute to The Law of Succession (Amendment) Bill. I will be very brief because many of the points that I had have already been spoken to by the other Senators who have spoken before me. view
  • 16 Jul 2024 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, kindly protect me from Sen. Maanzo. The customary law that you have heard Sen. Cheruiyot and Sen. Wambua speak about is very true. It is a reality that is ongoing in Ukambani. There is a saying in The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. • 16 Jul 2024 in Senate: Ukambani that states that whoever marries your mother is your father. That means some husbands marry wives with children from other families. Once those children come to that family, they are owned and become part and parcel of that family. On death, they inherit your property, just like the biological children of that family. This amendment Bill is very timely. During the public participation on the 1998 Bomb Blast, we called stakeholders to come and share their experiences with us. Some women told us that after their husbands died during the bomb blast, their in-laws chased them from their homes. ... view

  • 3 Jul 2024 in Senate: These jobs together with those in the national Government should be given to them rightfully without partiality. Others will do online jobs through the internet. It has become so difficult for our young people to get police and army jobs. I have heard many of them say that they have been asked to give bribes amounting to Kshs300,000. I have had cases where parents have approached me saying that they have sold their parcels of land to bribe in order for their children to get jobs and they have not been employed. I call upon the President of Kenya because ... view
  • 3 Jul 2024 in Senate: Senate, you will be heard. Sit down, communicate and send your Petitions to the Senate. We will deal with them and even before then, we will continue talking and presenting what you are saying. Mr. Speaker, Sir, these children are crying for jobs and seek to see that everything is being done in a proper manner. I want to speak to all of us through a scripture in the Bible, in Isaiah 1:18. It says, “Come now, let us reason together.” It is a time for Kenyans to come together and reason together. Mr. President, reason together with your people. ... view
  • 11 Jun 2024 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I rise to support this Bill and request that the Government to devolve more funds for the counties. As I echo the words of Sen. Maanzo, agriculture and health are devolved, however, we are facing many challenges in the counties especially with the hospitals because we are short of funds. The counties are paying the doctors, buying medication, building new hospitals here and there and many other things. The funds are not enough. I request the national Government to disburse more funds for health and agriculture to the counties, so that the counties can operate ... view

I rise pursuant to Standing Order No.53(1) to seek a Statement from the Standing Committee on Land, Environment and Natural Resources concerning certain properties in Machakos County paying land rates to the Nairobi Land Registry instead of Machakos Land Registry.
