  • 9 Sep 2009 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, you have heard the Assistant Minister has said that he is not able to post Physical Planners to the newly created districts. But besides the newly created districts, there are these others that have not been having Physical Planners and they are old districts. Could he be able to give an undertaking to this House that Physical Planners will be posted to those old districts, so that they serve the newly created districts as well? view

  • 23 Jun 2009 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I am happy with the answer that the Minister has given at last. But although there are quite a number of applicants who have applied to disburse that particular purse for the women, in some areas, she may not receive any applications because those SACCOS are not there. I wonder what steps the Minister could take to make sure that even where SACCOS are not available and, especially, we know that most banks would want to maximize on the operations--- They might not go very far from the radius of where they operate. • 2 Jun 2009 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, since Independence which is 46 years ago, the Government has been doing some study to know whether these are hardship areas. Now that the Minister has completed the study, could he assure this House that, in the coming financial year, this district will be taken care of? view
  • 2 Jun 2009 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, Tharaka District, after being classified as a hardship area, there is a division in the neighbouring Meru South District called Irabang’ombe, which has the same conditions. The teachers and civil servants there have not been enjoying hardship allowance. Gatunga Police Station, according to the Police Standing Orders is classified as a hardship area. Could the Minister confirm to this House whether for the years that police station has been approved as hardship area he will compensate those who have been working there for the years they have served there? view
  • 21 May 2009 in National Assembly: asked the Minister for Roads what urgent affirmative action he plans for Tharaka District in terms of road network, considering that it is the only district in the larger Meru region without any tarmacked road. view
  • 21 May 2009 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, may I thank the Assistant Minister for the answer. However, Road C92, commonly called the Mate Road, serves quite a number of districts in that particular region. Only six kilometres of the road he has talked about as being to bitumen standard, serves the district called Tharaka. Could the Assistant Minister consider upgrading the whole road, which is an equivalent of 100 kilometres, from Ena where it starts, to the nerve centre of the region, which is Meru Town? This road can, at least, alleviate the problem of transport in that area. view
  • 21 May 2009 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I am happy with the attempt the Assistant Minister is making for this particular district. As you will realize, Tharaka is completely cut off from the rest of the larger Meru. I would like to hear from him whether he could consider the 19 kilometres from Ciakariga to Tharaka Headquarters at Marimanti. It is only 19 kilometres! view
