  • 1 Oct 2015 in National Assembly: There is also the issue of Islamic State in Saudi Arabia (ISIS), and the possibility of Islamic forces moving from Saudi Arabia down into Somalia using our porous borders. When we are not able to protect ourselves by having a common pact with interested nations and parties with the same mind, we open ourselves to become victims of the terrorists and those intending to destroy our countries and economies. view
  • 1 Oct 2015 in National Assembly: So, in the interest of our countries and citizenry, I support this Motion. I beg those around us to understand that we do not live in an island. It is important that we share this kind of information and the opportunities that we have with each other to ensure that we advance peace within our region. view
  • 30 Sep 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I rise to support the Engineering Technologists and Technicians Bill presented by Hon. (Ms.) Cecilia Ngetich. I would like to thank her for taking such a great step forward in this country with 11 million unemployed youth, who need something to do. It is important that we regulate that industry. It is the industry that carries the majority of the youth and people engaged in construction in this country. They are people who will not necessarily find formal employment in offices, or have opportunities to better their lives. The enactment of this Bill will ... view
  • 30 Sep 2015 in National Assembly: one of the best things that will happen in this country. We are a developing country; we are viewed as one of the top countries in Africa in terms of industrialization, and so we must ensure that we have a regulatory body. If you look at most of the areas where construction is taking place, buildings are falling down. Why is that the case? There is nobody to question the contractor on the materials used and anything to do with standardization. This is because we do not have a body that should ensure that high standards are attained. It is ... view
  • 27 Aug 2015 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Temporary Deputy Chairlady, while I rise to support this amendment to Clause 18, I recommend that we do the tax rate probably at five per cent. If we look at countries like Dubai, where investment and taxation is at zero per cent, in order for us to create a competitive advantage for this country to allow investors to come view
  • 20 Aug 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me this opportunity to contribute to this Bill. The tax regime in this country has been quite punitive and unclear. It has been used to mainly harass a number of businesses instead of growing the businesses. This Bill aims to put in place practices for taxation to ensure that it is clear. Hopefully, the Commissioner-General will be somebody working towards ensuring the tax regime in place and the taxes that will be charged will encourage investment in terms of industrialisation. The purpose of this Bill is to keep the procedure of administering ... view
  • 20 Aug 2015 in National Assembly: be a very controlled industry. It is supposed to be a substance that is not just sold to anybody. Not everybody should be able to go out and purchase 1,000 litres of ethanol without an institution giving them any guidelines. They then make a concoction of it like they are making a fruit juice and then sell it to unsuspecting members of the public. Before we know it, these people will be blind and will have died and the person just goes off scot-free. We expect those who are sure that they want to engage in this type of industry ... view
  • 30 Jul 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for this opportunity to contribute to the Committee’s Motion. I would like to recognise the students who are here from Kiambu County. As you know, this is the bedroom for Nairobi and we are proud when we have our students here. I support this Motion. It is important that, as a country, that is looking to promote interregional trade that we allow more trade to take place between our states within Africa. If we are going to promote more economic growth and create opportunities for our citizens especially traders majority of who are women, ... view
  • 30 Jul 2015 in National Assembly: It is a shame that in order for us to travel from East to West, we are required to travel to the United Kingdom to take a connection flight. If this Protocol is ratified and we have bilateral air service agreements, someone can leave Nairobi for Ghana, do business and come back the same day or the following day. This will mean that we will have more movement of goods between us within our continent and this will lead to double-digit economic growth. The reason we have enhanced trade between Kenya and Uganda, which is our biggest trade partner in ... view
  • 30 Apr 2015 in National Assembly: Hon. Deputy Speaker, I rise to support this Bill that was brought by Hon. Ichung’wah. I come from a county where there is alcoholism that has ruined majority of the youth. Youth consume alcohol that has been laced with chemicals and because of this, we have so many cases of people going blind and others dying as a result of consuming alcohol. This is some sort of genocide of our youth, especially within central region of Kenya. It appears that much of the commercial or traditional activity there is alcohol consumption. view
