  • 27 Mar 2019 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I thank my colleague Hon. George Murugara for donating a minute to me. I rise to support the Motion about village elders who are also known as Nyumba Kumi. These are the people who hold the common fabric of the public together. They are the glue that holds the community together. These are the medical doctors of the village. These are the people who collect The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposes only. • 27 Mar 2019 in National Assembly: intelligence in the village. For working for 24 hours, all that they get from the Government is nothing. We are asking: Who is this person who is prepared to work for the Government with all his might but does not get anything in return? They must be compensated for the good work they are doing on the ground. I support. view
  • 29 Aug 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I am flattered by my colleague’s description. I second the Bill that the date for the national elections be changed from August to December. I am a Member of the Departmental Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs and I was involved in the public participation. We went round the country. I happened to be in the group that went to Kisumu, Kakamega, Eldoret and Wajir. In all the places we went to, the feeling of the masses was that August was a bit misplaced and the best month for elections was December. We received ... view

  • 22 Aug 2018 in National Assembly: Fistula affects both gender, but it is more pronounced in women than in men. Fistula usually comes from obstructed labour. It is also caused by early marriages, sexual violence, lack of maternity care, harmful practises like FGM and poverty. Poverty is a factor because it gives stunted growth to affected children. There are various diverse factors that cause fistula. view
  • 22 Aug 2018 in National Assembly: Fistula is a hole that develops between the vagina and the rectum, which causes the mixing of stool and urine. It causes a stigma which makes men to not want anything to do with a smelly woman. It is not because of their own making, it is because of that condition. The rate of divorce to a woman who is suffering from fistula is high. It is not because of the making of the lady and, therefore, this Motion is timely and it will ensure that such stigmatisation of women will go away. Also, it is important that we create ... view
  • 15 Aug 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I support the Motion. From the outset, it is good to state that the right to education is guaranteed by our Constitution. Therefore, even people living with disabilities are entitled to these rights under the Constitution. view
  • 15 Aug 2018 in National Assembly: People living with disabilities have been abandoned by our Government and leaders. This is a very timely Motion and it will ensure that children living with disabilities are given a platform upon which they can fully realise their gifts. The only way we can do this is by providing special units in our schools. We also need to provide the units with resources to ensure that talent is not only discovered, but also nurtured, promoted and put to good use. view
  • 15 Aug 2018 in National Assembly: The special units should be established in the usual ordinary schools because we need to integrate the disabled children into the normal lifestyle of other human beings. This will do away with the feeling of being discriminated against. The children will then be considered as members of the society enjoying full rights as guaranteed under the Constitution. view
