I want my party leader to take into consideration the fact that if we recruit, train and deploy police reservists for five years, this presupposes that after five years we will recruit again, vet and look for money again. It is cost-effective to have them serve for 10 years and then re-engage them if the Government deems it fit. However, if the Government does not require their services, then it can do as it pleases. view

Temporary Deputy Chairman, I beg to move that the Bill be further amended in the Schedule in the proposed amendment to the National Police Service Act (No. 11A of 2011) by inserting the following new provision in its proper alphabetical sequence— 112(1) delete and substitute therefor the following— (1) Every reserve police officer enrolled under this Act shall serve for a period of ten years and shall be paid gratuity upon completion of service.
