(a) The Government of Kenya adopted the Optional Protocol to the Convention of the Rights of the Child (CRC) on the Sale of Children, Prostitution and Child Pornography on 9th August, 2000, but has not yet ratified it. The ratification of the protocol will be done in line with Article 94(5) of the new Constitution, which requires Parliament to play a role in the process unlike in the past when this was the preserve of the Cabinet or the Executive.   • 9 Aug 2011 in National Assembly: (ii) The Government, in conjunction with UNICEF, carried out a study in the year 2006 on commercial sexual exploitation of children, which came up with the district action plans in four districts; namely, Kwale, Mombasa, Malindi and Kilifi. The recommendations from the study have to be replicated in other major districts and towns, all the other borders of transit, districts and towns, where child prostitution is rampant. Member that we should now involve the police and everybody up to the grassroots to curb child pornography that is being displayed in the rural areas. view

(a)(i) Section 12(3) of the Persons with Disabilities Act provides for exemption from payment of Income Tax accruing to persons with disabilities from their employment. This provision of the Act came into force after the Finance Minister amended Section 35 of the Persons with Disabilities Act of 2003 under amendment 71 of the Finance Bill of 2009.   • 7 Jun 2011 in National Assembly: income have been applying to the Commissioner of Domestic Taxes, through the National Council for PWDs. Where the applicant qualifies for exemption, the Commissioner issues the person with a certificate of exemption for a period of three years renewable within 30 days. To date, a total 1,348 PWDs have been granted tax exemption up to a maximum of Kshs150,000 per month, and the exercise is still ongoing. view
