  • 15 Jul 2010 in National Assembly: asked the Minister for Livestock Development:- (a) whether he could state the potential and actual contribution of the livestock sector to Kenya’s GDP; (b) how the Government has harnessed that potential with particular reference to ASAL areas; and, (c) what percentage of the Government Budget is allocated to the livestock sector. view
  • 15 Jul 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I think the Assistant Minister is getting mixed up in this and, in the process, confusing hon. Members. I hope he gets it corrected. Everybody here is quoting figures from the WHO and you need to help us so that we get the correct figures. My question is this: The Assistant Minister has listed a number of view
  • 15 Jul 2010 in National Assembly: measures the Government has taken. How effective are these measures, given that Kenya is among the top 11 countries? It looks like these measures are not effective at all. view

  • 14 Jul 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, the effect of what the Ministry has done is to export jobs to Europe; jobs which are badly needed in East Africa. Could the Minister, now that we have a competitive advantage on wheat production in East Africa – Kenya has a competitive advantage – consider financing the improvement and increase of acreage under wheat? I had the opportunity to be with Mr. Konchella in Narok on Friday. Could the Minister consider supporting wheat farmers so that the acreage under wheat in East Africa, especially in Kenya, is increased so that we can improve on our employment ... view
  • 14 Jul 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, nearly 20 years of service is not a short period. I know that you are very much in the know as a legal practitioner, that dismissal is a very severe disciplinary action. I have personally met this officer while he was on duty and he was a very diligent officer. Could the Assistant Minister reconsider that decision because it was done hurriedly and this case had been rightly reported and reconsider this harsh decision and reinstate this officer without having to subject him to appeals and all that? view
  • 7 Jul 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, this officer has stayed for a long time without being paid. I have no doubt that he must have been coming to Nairobi everytime until, perhaps, his shoes got worn out. Since that was not his mistake, could the Assistant Minister consider paying ex-gratia to compensate him for all that agony that he has gone through? view
  • 7 Jul 2010 in National Assembly: asked the Minister for Livestock Development:– (a) how the Ministry has assisted livestock farmers to adapt in view of the current adverse environmental changes; and, (b) what plans the Ministry has to assist pastoralists who lost their livestock during the just ended drought, to restock. view
  • 7 Jul 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I have listened with keen interest to the answer by the Minister and I note that these things are not happening in my constituency other than one which is remotely being implemented. Many of these are not happening and they will not help answer my Question. My Question is; “How has the Ministry assisted---“ Many of these are just plans which have not even been implemented and nothing has really happened. Could the Minister tell us what they have on the ground? Many of the things he has said here are not on the ground except for ... view
  • 7 Jul 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, for pastoralists, livestock is about their dignity. Once they lose their livestock, they become demoralized and dehumanized. My constituents, particularly those ones around Gafarsa lost nearly all the livestock they had. You can imagine that, that is what they solely depend on. Could the Minister immediately consider disbursing part of the money he has in his account since it is one year down the line, to parts of my constituency and the rest of the country so that a few of these pastoralists can benefit, including his constituency, particularly the Merti Area? view
