For a very long time, our people have suffered in the hands of a few people because they do not know how much they have been compensated. Therefore, they lose. This is an opportunity for our people to know how much they will be paid, and therefore, there will be no fraud from the lawyers anymore. view

The Insurance (Motor Vehicle Third Party Risks) Act is amended in section 12 by inserting the following new subsections immediately after subsection (1)— view
• 5 Dec 2013 in National Assembly: “(1A) The insurer shall, upon being served with the statutory notice and documents, admit or deny liability for the claim or judgment by a notice in writing to the person or persons presenting the claim or judgment. view
• 5 Dec 2013 in National Assembly: (1B) The claimant or judgment debtor or his representative shall upon receipt of the admission of liability shall allow the insurer a period of not more than sixty days to settle the claim or judgment out of court and both the insurer and the claimant or judgment debtor or his representative commit to arbitration or mediation during that period before resorting to court”. • 5 Dec 2013 in National Assembly: 3B. The Insurance (Motor Vehicle Third Party Risks) Act is amended in section 17 by— (a) deleting the words “five thousand shillings” and substituting therefor the words “five hundred thousand shillings”; (b) deleting the words “three months” and substituting therefor the words “one year”; (d) deleting the words “for which no other penalty is specifically provided”.
