  • 6 Nov 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. I want to thank the Vice-Chairman for the statement; I want to seek further clarification. For one to claim to have been displaced, he must show evidence of where he was living before. Part of the evidence that is supposed to be show in this case is title deeds. Why has the Government not found out where these people had been misplaced from, so that they get the title deeds for the property they left behind for either sale or resettle of IDPs? I would want the Vice-Chairman to tell this House how ... view

  • 6 Aug 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Chairlady. What we produce in this country is table sugar. I think this business of syrup sugar is a foreign product and this is what actually has undermined the production of sugar in this country. For the sake of farmers, if we zero-rate this sugar that means that the farmers will not be able to sell their own sugar and that is why we have had a problem. Therefore, I oppose this amendment. view
  • 31 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. In the event of lack of quorum, we usually ring the bell. I was requesting whether the bell could be extended to the Continental House so that hon. Members who are there are aware of the aspect of lack of quorum in the House. This is because many hon. Members have offices in Continental House. Will that be allowed by your--- view

I beg to give notice of the following Motion:- THAT, aware that millions of Kenyans suffer from serious jigger infestation that has greatly impacted their lives; deeply concerned that severe jigger infestation has forced children to drop out of school through persistent absenteeism and rendered parents incapable of providing for their families and yet, the Government has given the problem little or no attention; further concerned that despite on-going efforts by Non- Governmental Organizations to mitigate the situation, there still remains a lot to be done; this House resolves that the Government establishes a department ... view

  • 18 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman. The idea being floated by hon. Chepkonga was also floated during the deliberations of the Committee on Agriculture. The Committee has 29 Members. We debated the proposals and agreed that the most appropriate period would be six months, as per the Act itself. The Act had given--- view
  • 18 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Chairman for that protection. The period I had been given to ask the ASCU was six months, as per the Act. We thought that by giving the ASCU that period, it would be long enough. If we extended that beyond the six months, then they will again go back to sleep like they did last time. I think the Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Cooperatives is proactive and it would like to see things moving. Therefore, I oppose the amendment by hon. Chepkonga. We should carry on the amendment as it is on the Order Paper. view
