  • 19 Aug 2021 in National Assembly: digital credit providers will be expected to report on their activities. That would be very important because through that, things like money laundering can be controlled to make sure that we still protect our economy against some of those financial evils. I thank the Mover of this Bill and urge that now that we have the Leader of the Majority Party here, Hon. Amos Kimunya, we need to fast-track this Bill as a Parliament so that we can give Kenyans this law, which will protect our financial sector. In the long run, we will have a situation where people can ... view
  • 19 Aug 2021 in National Assembly: Another point that is critical and will need some finance expert to think through is the issue of interest. To some extent, we can predict the interest rates in this country using the Central Bank of Kenya. This is a sector which is not controlled. Most of the consumers are charged prohibitive interest rates. As we look at this Bill, there is need for Members to think seriously how we can make sure that the interest rates that consumers are charged do not expose them to poverty. Many people are suffering. I like the Hon. Member who said that you ... view

  • 18 Aug 2021 in National Assembly: was getting a bit worried because he was saying that we change irrigation land so that the town can be constructed. However, as he proceeded, I realised that it is a win-win situation because he is saying that we take 2,000 to accommodate the town and also extend by another 2,000 in the northern part of it, so that at the end of the day, you do not lose any acreage for irrigation. With those remarks, I support and I wish the Committee will be considerate. view
  • 11 Aug 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. Let me also join my colleague, Hon. Kilonzo, in mourning this great man. Mzee Nthenge. As it has been said, view
  • 11 Aug 2021 in National Assembly: Nthenge was actually common in this compound. He would come visiting. I would say he was really an excellent role model for some of us who are young politicians. This is an honourable Member who, in addition to fighting for the liberation of this country, also fought for the second liberation of democracy through FORD. As Mzee Nthenge rests, I think we have a lot of lessons to learn from his life. This is an old man who even after retiring from this honourable House went out there and continued doing business to take care of his family. After losing ... view

  • 10 Aug 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I must thank Hon. Junet for raising this matter. I am saying this because yesterday, as the Chair of the IEBC addressed the media, he said things which disappointed me. What he said amounts to undermining Parliament. Facts are very stubborn. When you say the truth, it will always remain the truth. The truth of the matter is that the Regulations were brought to this House last Thursday. Between Thursday and today, there is no working day for Parliament because it does not sit on Friday and Monday. The only sitting day is today. As Hon. ... view
