  • 4 Jun 2019 in Senate: Let me cite a bit of our experience at the KSL. Like it has been said, after UoN, we used to be allowed to sit for examinations in advance at the Kenya School of Law along Ngong Road. Mr. Speaker, Sir, during our time, we used to be well prepared for examinations. We would even be allowed to go and sit for the bar examinations at the KSL in advance when it was still along Ngong’ Road. We used to have very good lecturers who were professional practitioners like the late Sen. Mutula Kilonzo who taught us Professional Ethics and ... view
  • 21 May 2019 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, for giving me this opportunity to air my views and support the Statement by the Senator for Nandi County and the Chairperson of the Committee on Justice, Legal Affairs and Human Rights, Sen. Cherargei. A lot has been said - so I will not repeat it - but I need to emphasize one thing. The so-called fundamental rights of individuals and their freedoms are God-given; they The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. • 21 May 2019 in Senate: are not State-given. When I say so, I am addressing great minds, the Chair being one of them, as a leading lawyer in International Law. Kenya is a signatory to so many conventions, Treaties and agreements with regard to this point which we are emphasizing. It is clear that whereas we have the Constitution 2010, this document has meaning in so far as the citizens of this Republic are concerned. Nevertheless, it is nonsense to the police force. It is very sad that the police officers are well endowed with training on human rights. Sometimes you wonder where these lessons ... view

  • 14 May 2019 in Senate: Muindi Mbingu is a historical leader in this country, an independence leader. We do appreciate that he is gone into the annals of history as one of the persons who really agitated and fought the ―White men‖, who were suppressing this country from attaining Independence. It is on record that he is the man who marched the Kamba community to Nairobi all the way from Machakos to fight against imposed acts by the colonial governors. Eventually, to recognize Muindi Mbingu‘s effort, we do have a road in Nairobi known as Mundi Mbingu Street, which really optimizes the Kamba leadership in ... view
  • 14 May 2019 in Senate: I want to join other Senators in congratulating the students of Muindi Mbingu High School, together with the teachers and I do say that it is one of the best schools in Machakos and also in Kenya with sterling performance. Like it has been said of us in the Senate or those in the National Assembly, we are here for a moment and after us, leadership will come from no other place than from Muindi Mbingu Secondary School and other schools in this nation. • 3 Apr 2019 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. Let me also take this opportunity to congratulate the visiting students from St. Peter’s Minor Seminary from Kakamega. I would like to tell them that not everyone receives the calling to be a priest but those in seminaries are also nurtured to become good citizens and leaders. The Senate has also had its share of leadership from the seminary. I was in Pope Paul VI Junior Seminary in Machakos from 1981 to 1984. I did not become a priest but I am a responsible husband. Not all of us receive the calling to be priests; ... view
