Deputy Speaker, I rise to ask the Cabinet Secretary for Lands and Physical Planning the following Question: (i) Could the Cabinet Secretary explain the status of ownership of Land Reference No.11437, also known as Mengo Farm, in Saboti Constituency of Trans Nzoia County and the current occupants? (ii) What steps has the Ministry taken to ensure the current occupants who have been on the farm since 1970, are not evicted based on illegal documents, false claims or by abuse of court proceedings? • 30 Jul 2019 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker for giving me an opportunity to join my colleagues and the entire nation in sending my message of condolence to the family for the loss of Dr. Laboso as well as our colleague, Kibra MP. I specifically request to read a tribute to Mhe . Ken Okoth having been my very good and close friend and having shared the same school and many other things. I will make it very brief. Hon. Speaker, it is difficult to pay tribute to any human being but more difficult, to eulogise a man who was the embodiment and beacon ... view
  • 30 Jul 2019 in National Assembly: policies and stocking them in shelves of development partners and donors. But it is a question of moral purpose, a moral realm, that which only the truly great, Hon. Ken was capable. His political instinct of truth conviction, providence and above all, patriotism came long before he was thrust in the political limelight by the people of Kibra through the keys of Kibra Foundation that continue to support needy bright students. When he came to the august House, he never forgot who he was fighting for. He was solid with unwavering conviction that he stood with even when political tides ... view
  • 30 Jul 2019 in National Assembly: . taught us not to give up even when things are difficult. It is in the hospital bed in France, where I privately visited him with my family and he would radiate the same conviction through his desires to come and continue doing what he did best, serving his country and the people of Kibra. When things seemed to be getting out of hand, his bravery and patriotism would not allow him to give up. Though his song has ended prematurely and his candle flickered, the melody will continue lingering on. Given the sweep of his life, the scope of ... view
  • 24 Jul 2019 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I have been patiently waiting for this chance to support the Motion by my good friend, Hon. Waluke, which is at the centre of our survival as a nation and is key in terms of our sovereignty as a nation. We must ask ourselves what we can do as a country to bridge this huge trade deficit that we are experiencing. At the centre of this, we should try and see how we can do export promotion in terms of Government-funded trade fairs, conferences and exhibitions. More often than not, we bump into foreign ... view
  • 24 Jul 2019 in National Assembly: Ministry is focused on importation of maize. The Ministry should focus on how to promote our maize farmers so that we do not import maize while we have a lot in various stores across the country. We are ready to pay a premium on importing maize but we are not ready to pay the same premium to our farmers. We are not promoting our farmers but we are focused on promoting foreign entities at the expense of our struggling farmers. The Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries should also be preoccupied with trying to regularise our land issues. Most ... view
  • 24 Jul 2019 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. The CS for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries needs to focus more on our land and its use because we have had misplaced priorities on how we are developing our land that is fertile and conducive for agricultural activities. That land is being used for real estate. We need to have a policy that will regulate land use in this country, so that we also promote and safeguard our agriculture as a key economic sector of our nation. We have been talking about other countries that we were at par with like Singapore and South ... view

  • 24 Jul 2019 in National Assembly: That is why we have countries which are performing better than us and yet we were at par with them. They have invested in other areas like education and scientific research which we, as a nation, has ignored. view
