  • 22 Apr 2020 in National Assembly: Thank you Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. Let me first begin by really thanking the Budget and Appropriations Committee for a job well done and even for going further than that, upon noticing that there does not seem to be direct money earmarked towards COVID-19, they found it fit to ring-fence the money that came from Parliament towards COVID-19. That is not what we expected. Like the Leader of the Minority Party has said, I expected that we would first consider actually thinking outside the box as a country. We do not know for how long we are going to have ... view
  • 22 Apr 2020 in National Assembly: households that cannot afford to buy a meal for one week, two weeks, one month or two months, depending on the period of the lock-down. Therefore, I am thinking that a lot more needs to be done going forward because we need to plan for the worst-case scenario. I feel the originators of this particular budget should have put their mind into that, so that we can protect ourselves going forward. Otherwise, I am glad that some money has been set aside for the elderly and the most vulnerable people in the community. But we are still hearing a lot ... view
  • 22 Apr 2020 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, we have some Kshs10 billion that has been set aside for the Strategic Grain Reserves. However, we have heard of scandals where maize is bought from the wrong people. Can we ensure that we start with the farmers first? Let the Strategic Grain Reserve deal directly with Kenyan farmers without using brokers so that, that money can go into people’s pockets during this period when things are getting tough economically. So, we are hoping that we are not going to hear of stories like we have heard before. There will be more monitoring of how that money is ... view
  • 22 Apr 2020 in National Assembly: With those few remarks, I beg to support and thank the Budget and Appropriations Committee (BAC) and the Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning. Today, I feel that we have done a good job as a House and as the Committee on Delegated Legislation. You know we have been hit too hard. Right now, there is a thread on twitter about Pay as You Earn (PAYE), and we are being told that we have slept on our job. Today, we have done our job very well. We have followed the House procedures to give what is right to Kenyans. ... view
  • 4 Mar 2020 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, on that particular phrase “Each for Equal” we have been pushing for gender equality. Gender is not a women issue. • 4 Mar 2020 in National Assembly: man and woman issue. So, what we are saying is that each one of us should start pushing for equality of all humanity – both men and women – in terms of opportunities, education and leadership. That is what “Each for Equal” means Hon. Junet. I know you believe in your daughter getting equal opportunity like your son. So, “Each for Equal” means each one of us has a responsibility to support the equality of gender, the equality of the boy-child and the girl-child, so that all opportunities are available for them. Let me say this so that you do ... view
  • 4 Mar 2020 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker. My Question goes to the Cabinet Secretary for Health. (i) Could the Cabinet Secretary provide an update on the prevalence of Helicobacter Pylori (H. Pylori) in the country? (ii) Could the Cabinet Secretary also provide the measures being undertaken by the Ministry to contain the spread of the bacteria in the country? Hon. Deputy Speaker, this is the second time I am asking the same Question and I have not been told why I have not been answered. Thank you. view
  • 4 Mar 2020 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker for giving me this opportunity for my input to such an important Bill. Allow me to start by congratulating Hon. Gideon Keter who is a representative of the youth. He is a nominated Member like me, who represents the youth of this country in the National Assembly. He represents a huge chunk of our population, about 31.5 million Kenyans who are under the age of 35. I have to put my input on behalf of who I represent in this House, who are youths with disability. I want Hon. Keter to note that there are ... view
