  • 23 Jul 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Deputy Speaker, I want to thank hon. Kamama for the trial he has made in responding to this important Statement request. In my constituency, somebody sold land and bribed with Kshs300,000. When this man heard that his daughter was not given the job, he collapsed and died. As we speak today, this is an issue of great national importance. I am happy that the Chair has raised these sentiments. In some regions, which are cosmopolitan like Trans Nzoia, a directive was given that 70 per cent should come from a certain community. This was designed in a manner The ... view
  • 23 Jul 2014 in National Assembly: to bring confusion. We know very well that the Luhyia Community has the Bukusu, Tachoni, Maragoris and many others. When it comes to the Kalenjin Community, we have the Nandi, Sabaots and the Kipsigis. That directive was given in a manner as to mislead. Some sub-tribes were given their own slots. So, there was confusion. We need to have clarification from the Chair as he calls the stakeholders to appear before the Committee; he should bring a report to end this issue of tribalism. A place like Trans Nzoia County is cosmopolitan. We have very many Kisiis in Trans Nzoia ... view
  • 23 Jul 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Deputy Speaker. I rise to request a Statement from the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Labour and Social Welfare regarding the reported retirement of COTU’s Francis Atwoli and FKE’s JacklineMugo from the Board of NSSF by the Cabinet Secretary for Labour. view
  • 23 Jul 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you Deputy Speaker. This matter is very urgent and important and it is not a Motion; it has nothing to do with the rule of sub judice. This is a request for a Statement. So, the two have nothing to do with the matter in court; I am requesting a Statement. If it was a Motion of adjournment or anything, the sub judice would comes in. In this case, there is nothing. We need that Statement, because it is a matter of national importance. We know COTU has called for a strike and we want to avert this. Thank ... view
  • 22 Jul 2014 in National Assembly: On a point of order, hon. Deputy Speaker. I rise to seek your guidance. Last week I requested a Statement regarding police recruitment, and the Leader of Majority Party, hon. A. B Duale, undertook to bring the answer by last week. On Thursday, the Chairman, hon. Abongotum, promised to bring that Statement today, because of the importance and urgency of the matter. I seek your direction on this matter. view
  • 17 Jul 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Speaker. Indeed, the Chairman had communicated this to me and we have no otherwise. It is for him now to take note that this is a very serious issue. The report has to be comprehensive. We have heard of families losing people. Some parents have died. There is a case in western Kenya where somebody paid out Kshs300,000 to get her daughter a chance, but she did not make it. The mzee collapsed and died. As we speak now, we are mourning. There are also many instances. Since my friend has mentioned this, we have no otherwise ... view

Korir requested a Statement from the Ministry of Defence on the following issues:- (1) the financial compensation if any--- view
  • 16 Jul 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Deputy Speaker, as I try to respond to the Statement request, I want to make it clear to other hon. Members that we are, indeed, in a presidential system, and not a parliamentary system. Hon. Deputy Speaker, we sat as a Committee and decided that we have the capacity and capability of prosecuting the matter on the Floor of the House. It is not an issue of Cord or Jubilee. view
  • 16 Jul 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Deputy Speaker, on behalf of the Committee on Defence and Foreign Affairs, I beg to respond to the Statement request that was raised by hon. Wesley Korir, who is my neighbour. He has just texted me that he is on the way. He is actually parking his car. He will be here at any moment. The hon. Member requested a Statement regarding the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) on the following issues:- (a) financial compensation, if any, scheduled for soldiers returning from combat duties in Somalia or bereaved families--- view
