  • 24 Nov 2016 in National Assembly: My contribution is that this is not the two-thirds gender rule we are applying here. We are only considering a section that allows women to be there. So, it is not a harmful idea at all. It is simply giving an opportunity to some women to be in the students’ unions. Therefore, it is not harmful; it is really supporting the two-thirds gender rule. Even if we come up with a law here, we will not go back to do elections for the students. We might as well go ahead now and allow the women to be part and parcel ... view

  • 25 Oct 2016 in National Assembly: It is not working but thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker, for giving me this opportunity. Like fellow women here, I would like to oppose this. But I want to highlight a few things. First, let me congratulate the men in this House who have been behind women. There are quite a number of men who are with us. I also want to congratulate my party leader who was here when we were voting on this Bill. Many Members have highlighted the fact that this Bill is not going to help women. There is this catchword that is being used in ... view
  • 25 Oct 2016 in National Assembly: critical if we are going to use the word “progressive” because we want to see the way it is progressing step by step. We are also going to look at how it is progressing. What are the strategies you use to make progress? That is all missing. There is no strategy. There are no indicators. It is a blind game. It does not add value. It does not show improvement in the number of women. So, we need to rephrase. We need to come up with certain things that will convince us that women are actually improving and the number ... view
  • 25 Oct 2016 in National Assembly: House. How many more women do we need? Where is the formula to be used? What are the indicators and what is the strategy? Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker. I do not support, like everybody else. view
  • 18 Oct 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker for this opportunity. First of all when you talk about insurance it sends some cold shivers down your spine. This is because insurance companies do not seem to have a very good name in terms of dealing with their clients. When they want you to join them and become their client they are on your neck every day. They call The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. • 18 Oct 2016 in National Assembly: and visit you. They really give you sweet talk. Once you become their client, they forget about you because they know that you are contributing to the insurance on a monthly basis. They forget about you until the day you want to claim. Good insurance providers will normally be in touch with you. They will remember you during your birthday and on Christmas day. They send you messages but, some just disappear until after something happens to you and you want to claim. That is when they appear or that is when you find them but, all along they do ... view
  • 6 Oct 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker for this opportunity. I support the adoption of this Policy because it touches on the children who live under difficult circumstances. These are disabled children - physically handicapped - living in poverty, suffering from HIV and AIDS, and go through hell in the families where there is a lot of violence. They are also neglected, go hungry and do not go to school. The list of their afflictions is very long. view
