  • 18 Oct 2018 in Senate: They are also aware that this Motion is before this House today. On Saturday, four of them came to my house and requested me to support it. I am supporting it that they be given honorarium and a monthly stipend as stated here. However, when a Motion like this is tabled before us, we say there is no money. How much money are we losing through corruption? A lot of money is swindled by individuals through corruption in this country. We need to use our resources prudently so that we fight corruption. Corruption is always motivated by idle money. Some ... view
  • 18 Oct 2018 in Senate: The former councillors must be supported by this Government. There is a lot of discrimination of the MCAs. Most of them are struggling and yet they are the closer to the constituents more than us. Most of their time is spent on attending fundraisings, funerals, graduation ceremonies, weddings and so on. Right now, they do not receive car grants like us. This is discrimination. They are also discriminated in terms of pension. Even after serving for two terms as MCAs, they do not qualify to earn pension. We must correct these things for justice to prevail to all of us. ... view
  • 11 Oct 2018 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, for giving me this opportunity to condole with the families who lost their beloved ones through this unfortunate accident. Reading reports from the media, we see the police and the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) are good at keeping statistics. • 11 Oct 2018 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, as I said, accidents are preventable. It is a pity that law enforcers are not doing their work. We only hear of them giving us statistics when accidents occur. It will be important if we enhance regular inspection of all vehicles on our roads. We were all surprised to hear this particular bus was not licensed to ferry passengers at night. However, it was driven past many police road blocks. It was very sad to note that a single family lost six members who were going for a funeral. I urge the Committee on Roads and ... view
  • 4 Oct 2018 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Temporary Speaker for giving me this opportunity to make my contribution on this Bill. Unlike in the traditional world where families used to take care of their aged with a lot of dignity and respect, a lot of things have changed. A lot of challenges and poverty have robbed the African society’s dignified ways through which they used to take care of the elderly people. The old people are our great heritage, reservoirs for wisdom, tradition and culture; they are our parents, as Sen. Mwaruma has said. Their value to us cannot be underestimated. However, the society ... view
  • 3 Oct 2018 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, forgiving me this opportunity to make my contribution towards this Motion on disaster management. I concur with Members who have spoken before me in the sense that in our country and our counties at large, we are lacking proactive strategies to combat disasters. There are many challenges we have faced in our counties. For instance, this year alone in The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for information purposes view
  • 27 Sep 2018 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, for giving me the chance to make my contribution on this very important Motion which has been ably moved by the Sen. (Prof.) Kamar. This morning we went round this county inspecting conditions of these institutions that squarely under the docket of the Senate. The promotion of these institutions is very important because many of our youth are not employed. They lack the necessary skills to be absorbed in the job market. Many of them are loitering in our villages and centres because of lack of employment. The importance of having these TIVET in ... view
