  • 29 Jun 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker. view
  • 29 Jun 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I rise to second the Motion as it has been moved by my able Chairman. I thank the Chairman and fellow Members of the Committee for the rigorous exercise we went through in vetting these Kenyans to these positions in the Privatisation Commission of Kenya. The Commission will be in place after this House passes these nominees. They will go down to business as soon as possible because we know that presently we have several institutions in this country which have been earmarked for privatisation. This should be done expediently for them to start moving on ... view
  • 29 Jun 2016 in National Assembly: Despite the time limitation that the Chairman has already mentioned, we sat and burnt the midnight oil to make sure that we beat the deadline. I am happy that we managed to do the same despite the limitation. I also thank my colleagues because they all dedicated themselves to this purpose. view
  • 29 Jun 2016 in National Assembly: All the nominees, as it has been said, are qualified. Moreso, there is also gender balance because out of the seven members, we have two ladies. That is close to the requirement of the Constitution because it is 2.1 of a person. I believe that meets the threshold. view
  • 29 Jun 2016 in National Assembly: These nominees are persons from diverse fields in their qualification. I strongly believe that the Commission will be well represented because we have lawyers, teachers, bankers, business people and career civil servants. These brains put together will do a good job. They will come up with results which will be binding. view
  • 29 Jun 2016 in National Assembly: I do not want to belabour much because my Chairman has already done it but I request the nominating authorities of these commissions to look across the board to have a national outlook when they nominate. All the nominees were qualified but there was a small air of feeling that we did not look across the country despite the small number of nominees. All in all, they were all qualified and once this House passes the Motion, they will do a good job for this country. view
  • 29 Jun 2016 in National Assembly: With those few remarks, I beg to second. view
  • 29 Jun 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for this opportunity to contribute to this Motion. I want to thank Hon. Yusuf for having brought it to this House. It is common knowledge to everybody that Kamukunji Grounds is a sacred place to Kenyans. It is a place which is synonymous with Independence and the way our nation came to be. It is where our forefathers were meeting to canvass and craft ways of getting out of the European yoke and colonial bondage. Therefore, this Motion is for us to endorse Kamukunji Grounds to be one of our national artefacts like the ... view
  • 29 Jun 2016 in National Assembly: I also take the opportunity to welcome the teachers and pupils from Kirima Gantwiko Primary School which happens to be in my county. Let them feel welcome in the National Assembly. As I was saying, the name “Kamukunji” itself is central in the history of this country. When we have informal meetings here in Parliament we call them Kamukunjis . When we talk of “ kamukunji”, it is not that the place is here, but the word is synonymous with where people used to go to canvass secretly and lay their strategies to fight for this country. To date if ... view
  • 29 Jun 2016 in National Assembly: synonymous with the value or esteem with which the ground is held by Kenyans. Therefore, in approving this Motion, we want to safeguard those structures in our country which have been synonymous with this country since Independence. We need to preserve it for future generations, like we are doing with the wildlife. Some animals are almost becoming extinct and our children will see them on YouTube because now we are digital and others will see them in books or they will just hear about them in stories, like we hear of the dinosaurs and the like. If we take action ... view
