Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for this opportunity to contribute to this Motion. I want to thank Hon. Yusuf for having brought it to this House. It is common knowledge to everybody that Kamukunji Grounds is a sacred place to Kenyans. It is a place which is synonymous with Independence and the way our nation came to be. It is where our forefathers were meeting to canvass and craft ways of getting out of the European yoke and colonial bondage. Therefore, this Motion is for us to endorse Kamukunji Grounds to be one of our national artefacts like the ...

I also take the opportunity to welcome the teachers and pupils from Kirima Gantwiko Primary School which happens to be in my county. Let them feel welcome in the National Assembly. As I was saying, the name “Kamukunji” itself is central in the history of this country. When we have informal meetings here in Parliament we call them Kamukunjis . When we talk of “ kamukunji”, it is not that the place is here, but the word is synonymous with where people used to go to canvass secretly and lay their strategies to fight for this country. To date if ...

synonymous with the value or esteem with which the ground is held by Kenyans. Therefore, in approving this Motion, we want to safeguard those structures in our country which have been synonymous with this country since Independence. We need to preserve it for future generations, like we are doing with the wildlife. Some animals are almost becoming extinct and our children will see them on YouTube because now we are digital and others will see them in books or they will just hear about them in stories, like we hear of the dinosaurs and the like. If we take action ...

Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for giving me this opportunity to contribute to this Motion. I stand to support the Chair of the Committee that we approve these nominees to the Competition Authority. As the Chair has put it, these Kenyans are qualified in all ways. They went through the rigorous process of vetting from the Committee. As a Committee, we found no fault with any of them. Despite the sentiments in the House from some colleagues that it does not reflect the face of Kenya or the national outlook, balancing five names among 42 tribes might be a ...

Thank you Hon. Speaker, for giving me the opportunity to contribute to this important Bill. I support it. It is long overdue. It should have been brought earlier than this period, when we are facing a crisis of financing in the construction of roads in this country. This Bill will save a lot in terms of conflicts, duplication and blame games which have been going around in the counties and constituencies in the country. I believe that each county or constituency has experienced it. It has not been clear which roads belong to the counties and which ones belong to ...

Secondary Roads Authority. We would allocate money to KeRRA for a particular road and it would be evaluated, but before the contractor would go to the ground, the county government would come overnight with a grader and work on the same road. Thereafter, you go to the drawing board again. I strongly believe this will solve those problems and the roads will be done expediently without duplication. Let me also add that it is only through infrastructure that we can develop this country, and it is natural justice. When you look at places where there has not been any road, ...

damaged and the driver does not run the risk of causing an accident. Let them put up proper road signs for bumps to be identified. In the same vein, there is influx of boda boda or motorcycles. There are so many of them in the country at this time. They have become a mode of transport, especially in the rural areas and villages. The trouble is that policemen have closed their eyes to the way those motorcycles are used. We have accidents every day. We are burying our children every day because the motorcycles are driven by very young people. ...

Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me the opportunity to contribute to this Motion as amendment. I support it because I am one of the Members of Parliament of a community which has suffered greatly due to the menace of cattle rustling. That is why I say Members who are opposing this Motion do not know the experiences people go through when they lose their animals, and when their sisters, mothers and wives are raped. These are people who are left with nothing except rats and, maybe, cats. It is a disaster. It is said that it is ...

afraid to mention that even the area Member of Parliament, get a share of the loot. They promote this culture. The Government put in place machinery for ensuring that cattle are not stolen, or people whose cattle are stolen are compensated. The Government should use its machinery to go for those who steal and prosecute them just like a carjacker, murderer or somebody who has stolen from a bank or broken into a shop. They should be treated like criminals as per the law. Those who have been aggrieved because of the stealing culture should be compensated. We should relate ...
