  • 23 Oct 2013 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Temporary Speaker, for giving me this opportunity. Agriculture continues to dominate Kenya’s economy thus being the largest contributor to Kenya’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). We have about 75 per cent of Kenyans who are employed by the agricultural sector. We are talking about coffee and tea but we also have other sectors like fisheries, livestock, cotton, flowers, other horticultural produce and even fresh produce. That is why I stand to defend this Motion and to support it. The relevant bodies, agencies and even the Ministry of Agriculture should take this issue seriously and provide a mechanism for ... view
  • 9 Oct 2013 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, for giving me this opportunity to second this Motion. As Sen. (Prof.) Anyang’-Nyong’o has said, the Committee has done a good job especially visiting these counties to see how harambees are being conducted and how they affect or are benefitting the citizens. It is important that the Senate gives us more time, so that we can continue deliberating on this issue. At the end of this process, we will give you a report that will be of use to us in the future. view

  • 9 Oct 2013 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, for giving me this opportunity to support this Motion. First, these cable cars will enhance the tourism sector in this country. Tourism is very key when it comes to income generation in this country. If we go the way of cable cars, we shall open the recreation sites or the mountains in this country. It will enable tourists who come to this country to view various tourist sites. We have so many untapped zones for tourism in this country because we do not have a good transport system. When I look at countries like ... view
  • 1 Oct 2013 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, thank you for giving me this opportunity to contribute and support the Motion before the House. I will start by congratulating Sen. Mositet for bringing the Motion to the House. I have seen that all Senators are supporting it. I would like to clarify that the work of the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) is to give guidance in the maintenance and construction of roads. So, do they have to carry out that mandate and yet there is a county government in place? This has given many challenges to our county governments because the citizens would ... view
  • 1 Oct 2013 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, as we appreciate devolution, it is very important for us to also appreciate the village elders since they are the people at the grassroots level. They play a big role as mediators in case of a dispute in the family or community. Before people go to the chief’s office, they first run to the village elder. Secondly, when I was growing up, the village elders could order one out of the house to go to school and the parent will be taken to task. That is why I am saying that it is important for us ... view
  • 25 Sep 2013 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, thank you for giving me this opportunity to contribute to this Motion that has been brought by our Chairman of the Committee on Education, Information and Technology where we always call him pastor or bishop and I know this Motion is going to be implemented. Madam Temporary Speaker, more importantly is that the young people have always been used as a statistical group not only in Kenya but in other countries. Through Information Communication and Technology (ICT), we are going to open up opportunities for them to get employment. Looking at examples of countries like Malaysia and ... view

  • 18 Sep 2013 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, for this opportunity to also contribute to the good Motion that has been brought by Sen. Wako. Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, first, training is very key to the people concerned. This is because we want to achieve the goal that is in our Constitution. Secondly, we are working towards the achievement of devolution and the people concerned with implementation are found at the county level. The executive members and staff who help them in doing this need to get the relevant skills and knowledge that will enable them take up their job so well, ... view
