  • 7 Dec 2006 in National Assembly: remains that hon. Members who sit in this House are corrupt. I do not want to believe that, that is the position. However, the beliefs of the people can only be changed if we take time off and spend more time with our people in the constituencies to show them the kind of productive work we have been engaged in. Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, in particular, there are some great innovations that this House has approved as being part of Government policy. In particular are issues of the youth. Many people outside this Parliament still do not comprehend the ... view
  • 7 Dec 2006 in National Assembly: . When you talk about the stock exchange of any country, there is no greater measure of stability and confidence in it than the fact that it is operating properly. For people who are responsible citizens to go out there and claim that members of the public who queued to pay their Kshs1,000 to buy shares were actually using drug money, is unfortunate. With those remarks, I beg to support and ask that we use the recess to make our country look great. 4292 PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES December 7, 2006 view
  • 28 Nov 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I would, first of all, want to thank you for giving me this opportunity to contribute to the debate on this Bill. I would also like to congratulate the Mover of this Bill for a very well thought-out Bill. In many ways, we need to support the Bill. I stand to support this Bill. I once again want to say that this is yet another jewel from our Lady hon. Members in this House, who have continuously moved good laws in this country that have affected the country in a very positive manner. Hats off ... view
  • 23 Nov 2006 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, for giving me the opportunity to also add my support to this Bill and make a few remarks. First and foremost, I want to congratulate hon. Dr. Ojiambo for bringing this Bill here. I also want to thank people who have supported her to ensure that this Bill reaches where it has reached right now. To me, this is yet another shining star amongst our lady legislators. It is hats off for Dr. Ojiambo from all of us who are watching her efforts from the sides. Congratulations, Dr. Ojiambo! We want you to ... view
  • 22 Nov 2006 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. We must show some respect as we address this House, as you pointed out. Is the hon. Member in order to say that an outlawed sect demonstrated in support of a Minister? Could the hon. Member table evidence and substantiate that statement or withdraw and apologise? view
  • 22 Nov 2006 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. Is the Member in order to read a document that has not been presented for authentication, and refer to it as an authority? view
  • 22 Nov 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I beg to second the amendment that has been moved by the hon. Member who has just finished speaking. Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I would want to take this opportunity to also make my contribution on this Motion as amended. When the Ministry of Regional Development Authorities and the various organizations and development authorities, like the TARDA, the LBDA and the Coast Development Authority (CDA), were set up, the idea was to try to reach to those areas which 3850 PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES November 22, 2006 had been left behind in terms of economic development, ... view
  • 8 Nov 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I want to thank you for giving me this opportunity to also make my contribution. First of all, I want to start by congratulating the Minister for Finance for moving the Microfinance Bill. I will not speak for very long because this is the type of Bill that we should pass as fast as possible. Why do I say so? Many of us will remember the reign of the shopkeeper in the rural areas. This is a man who would collect all the money from women and youth groups and keep it in his view
  • 8 Nov 2006 in National Assembly: for safe keeping. Any time our people wanted back their money to do business, they would be told to wait until the end of the month or for two weeks. In the meantime, while the shopkeeper was doing business with that money, these poor people in many parts of our rural areas would not be allowed to get any loan from the shopkeepers. If they were to be given loans, they were asked to pay exorbitantly for those services. Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, we all agree that we need financial services for our people in the rural areas. We ... view
  • 31 Oct 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, in seconding this Bill, I would like to congratulate the Minister for Finance for all the proposed measures he has brought before this House. He has created an environment that is good for all Kenyans and for the development of this country. As you may be aware, the Government has been on the fore-front, urging Kenyans and everyone else who lives in this country to pay their taxes. These specific measure are being taken in very good faith and it is in keeping with the general spirit that we encourage the payment of taxes by ... view
