  • 23 Jun 2021 in National Assembly: As he read the Petition, I felt a cold chill down my spine because as we read the history of minerals in Africa and how they are exploited, it sounds almost like what he has read out. The Committee should move with haste to find out exactly who are moving people from their ancestral land and taking it away. We know very well that in Taita Taveta, there are a lot of minerals that are yet to be exploited in that region. I suspect that this move could be to get hold of the minerals that are underground. So, I ... view

  • 23 Jun 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I rise to second the Vice-Chairperson on moving this National Blood Transfusion Service Bill. What is happening in this country is very sad. We have had occasion to tour some of the blood transfusion service centres in Mombasa and Nairobi and what we found was a terrible situation in the sense that things are no longer working. The donors have pulled out. In fact, it is a shame that as a country, in something essential like blood donor services, we should rely on donors to fund it for us. It is a shame. This Bill is ... view
  • 23 Jun 2021 in National Assembly: there are all sorts of private hospitals cropping up. We are privatising amidst the poverty in the country. So, the poor are no longer affording healthcare. A poor person falling sick and ending up in private or even a public hospital, it means bankruptcy for the family for the rest of its life. If we cannot do the right thing with blood transfusion, we are condemning the majority of Kenyans to live a life of penury. You will find that in some places, the kind of charges that are put on the whole blood transfusion are unbelievable. When you want ... view
  • 23 Jun 2021 in National Assembly: As I second this, I would urge that perhaps, the Ministry of Health should send some people to look at how countries like Israel run their blood donor services and their ambulance service. That way, they will understand what is very key about blood transfusion that we should have a stand-alone Act of Parliament to run it. If we do not do that, with our health care slowly decaying, we will have a big problem. There are many things that we can say about this, but allow me to end by saying that I urge the House to pass this ... view

  • 15 Jun 2021 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. With a lot of respect to Member 001, could he substantiate what he is saying about development in Western Kenya hence the high population? view
  • 15 Jun 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. On my own behalf and that of the people of Tongaren Constituency, I wish to extend my deep felt condolences to the family of the late Washington Jakoyo Midiwo. I first met him when I came to Parliament in 2007. That time he was the Chief Whip for the Orange Democratic Movement. I must say at the outset that Jakoyo struck terror to PNU side because of his organisational skills. That time I sort of detached because on the PNU side I was the only FORD-Kenya Member. So, I was able to masquerade on both sides. ... view
  • 15 Jun 2021 in National Assembly: He was also jovial in a way. There is one joke he kept telling us about the time he was accused of having frequented Koinange Street. He went for the campaign in his constituency and knew that his days were over because that was the main accusation flying around. Then somebody just stood up and said, “Jakoyo is the man because he is not running after men, he is running after women, so he is not a gay”. That changed the mood and he made it back to Parliament. He kept on telling that joke. He had his own way ... view
  • 8 Jun 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. Thank you, Hon. Chair, for this chance to second the Motion of the Public Accounts Committee Report. At the outset, I would like to say that I have been in this House for a while now, and the interest on the reports of the PAC seems to be waning. It is waning perhaps because Members feel that whatever they do or say, nothing is done about it and they start losing interest. Some may not be reading it because it is voluminous. So, they may feel that it is too large for them to read, but ... view
